What we need is smart, educated people who are willing to serve a certain length of time, work for the good of the country,go back to their professions.

Instead of those who can not make it in the real world, see it as a nice, cushy lifetime job. That is what we have now, enriching themselves. Many do not have what it takes. Look at some of the bumbling fools.

Yes, blueneck, I have many thoughts on this.

The man behind this has been involved in lawsuit after lawsuit. Lied in his ads, even put the CEO of Cleveland Clinic in one to make it appear he approved. Had to remove that.

I listened to the CEO just last week and knew that was untrue.

The money from this will go straight into Weinstein pocket.

Man behind Ohio ballot issue wants debate with drugmaker | NBC4i.com

You should google, there are many articles from both sides, so study them carefully.

I am voting no. I want Congress to do something about drug prices. Not this guy.
How does Weinstein profit from the state of Ohio paying lower prices for drugs?

I told you to read all that articles, make up your own mind. I have studied both sides, read as many articles as I can.

I also told you why and who needs to control drug prices. I can not decide for you.

Like any job, to attract decent people we have to compete in a marketplace for labor. Refusing to provide any fringe benefits at all--something that's part of the compensation packages of pretty much all high-skill workers--means 1) you'll attract less-skilled candidates, 2) attract only candidates who literally don't need any income even if they have to support two households, or 2) you'll encourage corruption to make up for the lost benefits.

Federal workers get fringe benefits. So do teachers, fire fighters, police officers, etc. It's illogical to suggest that the people who determine their compensation should not get fringe benefits--that would also encourage them to end benefits for all those people.
I'm more concerned that these people have to beg for enough money to run for office and on a constant basis. For me that says they are open to being bought out by the higher contributor and the average voter isn't that important.

I've almost given up on contacting my representative. The insulting form letters were bad enough but many times I'm lucky if they ever get back to me.

I believe they look up your voting record. I don't consistently vote for either party as an independent voter so I'm shit out of luck.

Okay, just wondering what people here thought about it. The main thing I've wondered about is the concern over this Weinstein guy and how he will be the beneficiary if this bill passes, but I have yet to see any explanation as to how he would do that.

Well, when some one lies in their ads repeatedly, has been sued many times due to his business actions, I tend not to trust them..
I have also said Congress needs to act on drug prices, not one man that has his finger in the drug pie.

But I do want you to decide for yourself. Good luck. It is wise to research. Most of the newspapers in Ohio,Dayton Daily, Columbus Dispatch. Toledo Blade.

Please do,then decide yourself. I am not so opinionated I think I am always right.

I did not vote for Obama the first time because I did not think I knew enough. Second time I voted for him gladly. I could see his work for us.

You're espousing a noble idea: the reluctant citizen politician who STANDS for election because his neighbors beg him to serve rather than RUNS for election because he wants the job. But that ideal hasn't been operative since about 1800. Like a Republic without political parties, it's an idea that just doesn't work over the long-term. It took less than 20 years for it to break down.
I think the argument, at least more recently, is why don't we see teachers, firemen, carpenters, engineers running? Most are wealthy, Ivy League people. Which is why we are seeing a more populist movement worldwide. Why isn't a teacher qualified? That really isn't what the founding fathers wanted, they wanted average people to run and represent, average people. The whole idea that our politicians must be highly degreed lawyers and poly sci majors is quite snobby. I get that we want educated and smart people running but to somehow indicate that only wealthy, well off people that can afford a private college education is ludicrous. Is there no happy medium between an Ivy League grad and Kid Rock?
