Unions put upward pressure on the cost of everything unionized workers provide, so this does occur, but no, this isn't about unions.

The request is allegedly due mostly to the cited political uncertainty. Most enrolled via the exchange get federal subsidies for their premiums. If the subsidies are reduced or eliminated mid-year, the insurance company can reasonably expect adverse selection and be on the hook for only the huge claims while revenue plummets. If they aren't allowed to adjust their rates mid-year, which they usually aren't, then that means their risk is substantially higher, and it's not beyond comprehension therefore why they would seek significant rate hikes.

There should be some sort of protective mechanism in place for customers if the basis for their huge rate hike request is projected and does not end up coming to fruition. I.e., if the insurance company says it needs to hedge against political risk and is awarded its 71% premium hike, and then nothing happens, 14% (20% of 71%) of that hike goes straight into the insurance company's bottom line (80/20 rule) in return for no added value to consumers. Absent a protective mechanism like this, the insurance commission should deny the request and allow only for whatever rate hike might be justified by historical claim levels or demonstrable changes to the composition of the insured pools.

    You control all of Congress.
Who's fault could it obviously be. Anybody other than you, as usual.

One gold plan, one silver plan, one bronze plan. Well it turns out that the bronze plan is $50 a month, I'm at the 200 for the gold plan. Medicare did not pay the premium and poor people cannot afford $50 a month when they don't even have a job. I tell you now if I ever send anything before the Republicans f***** up Obamacare.

The biggest problem I have found using the ACA is doctors don't generally like it. One of ours called it "fake insurance" and another who used to take it now doesn't because she says the reimbursements are "starving wages." So they stopped taking it and of course, everyone now has to get a new doctor. I wouldn't say my state messed it up but rather if profit is the motive and you live in a small state, why bother? That's honestly how they looked at it. Plus half the state went down into Boston for care and now that's almost always out of network. So its compounded the issue. One of those good intentions, bad executions kind of thing.

    I do?

    Why can't you fix this.
Because I don't unilaterally control Congress and the Presidency?

The way our health care and insurance systems work are this way because of laws and policies that were passed years ago.

Stop blaming Hillary, stop blaming Obama, stop blaming liberals, y'all control all of Congress. You control all of Congress.
No one controls all of Congress.

You need to settle down and get a grip. Have you ever actually thought about the nature of our health care system? Or do you just waste time spinning political blame?

Sad fact is it or any other healthcare system that relies on the young to pay for the old will collapse. You cant put the burden on your youth to fund healthcare for older, sicker people. Never ever works. Which is often why other countries healthcare doesn't do that, everyone pays same percent kind of thing. Same for smoking, obesity, illness etc. Punishing those makes it fail. You cant single people out and make them carry a burden particularly when its profit based.
    Thanks from HCProf

Its more than that though. I have had insurance through Massachusetts living here in NH, but its out of network. That's where they get you.
