Describe what inner peace actually is.

We hear of some people who know they are going to die tell us that they have inner peace but what do they mean exactly and how does one achieve it?

For me, as a Christian, it is an easy explanation but for those that do not believe how do you achieve inner peace while still contending with emotions.

I can understand the dying individual as they no longer have to worry as they used to but what about those people still living their daily lives, without a "crutch" as religion, how do they achieve it or is it simply a fallacy that one can have it without an outside influence.

The thread is a logical fallacy. You assume that only religion can make inner peace possible. That's bullshit.

I never said that, I said for me it does.

Not surprising you wouldn't understand that.

You obviously have no inner peace and are just an angry individual.

    1) Aligning one's life to one's talents and sense of purpose.

    2) Recognizing and accepting necessary compromises.

    3) Recognizing and rejecting unnecessary compromises.

    4) Asking for forgiveness for one's transgressions.

    5) Repairing damaged relationships.

    6) Faith in one's God, belief system, life philosophy.

Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love
    Where there is injury, pardon
    Where there is doubt, faith
    Where there is despair, hope
    Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy
O divine master grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it's in dying that we are born to eternal life
    Amen

Live your life the way you know you should, without regard for what others think. We are all alone really, no matter how many people we are surrounded by.

That’s wonderful kmiller, thanks for posting it. I can’t do any better than that.

Im also a Christian, but I would imagine that someone who is not spiritual and doesn’t believe in afterlife would remove the first and last lines of that - and the rest would be exactly the same.
