Sonoma County meningitis death linked to music festival | PressDemocrat.com | The Press Democrat | Santa Rosa, CA

A 23-year-old Sonoma County man died Wednesday from a virulent case of meningitis officials believe he contracted over the weekend at the World Music Festival in Boonville.
“He probably picked it up at the fair,” said Mendocino County Public Health Officer Dr. Marvin Trotter.
The festival was attended by about 6,000 people, most of them from outside of the county.
The man had been healthy on Saturday, went to work on Monday, became ill on Tuesday and died Wednesday, he said.
“It is a very lethal form of meningitis,” he said.
Trotter is concerned others attending the festival may have been infected with the bacteria, which is spread by saliva.
“He did share marijuana joints with people,” Trotter said.

VIRAL MENINGITIS is usually relatively mild. It clears up within a week or two without specific treatment. Viral meningitis is also called aseptic meningitis.
BACTERIAL MENINGITIS is much more serious. It can cause severe disease that can result in brain damage and even death.

I confess there was a time in my life when I was picker, a grinner, a lover and a sinner. Furthermore I used to be a joker, a smoker and a midnight toker.

Pot should be legal, but it should only be legal if it is smoked indoors on certain private properties or just away from people...

Here's another. A friend of mine is a neurosurgery resident who currently works a lot of hours in the ER. You'd be surprised by the number of deaths due to blood vessel ruptures in the brains of stimulant abusers, mainly cocaine. Blood pressure goes up, way up, and sometimes a vessel just can't hold up anymore. Worse, the increased blood pressure causes long-term damage to vessels to that such an event becomes more and more likely with time.
