Lawrence ODonnell to exit MSNBC? Progressives fight to keep lineup

Wow, is the new guy at MSNBC not too bright? The channel is seeing record ratings and they want to let it all go?

Lawrence O’Donnell, host of MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” has just four weeks left in his contract, and the cable network does not appear to be interested in renewing his deal. Four well-placed sources tell HuffPost that MSNBC has not been in contact with O’Donnell’s team of representatives to negotiate a new deal.

The absence of active negotiations weeks before a contract expires is highly unusual and often a sign that a contract won’t be renewed. News networks normally don’t risk letting the contract of a host who has a highly rated program expire or even come close to expiring before renegotiating. A short time-frame puts the network at a strategic disadvantage in talks, that’s why cable networks often start negotiating renewals six to nine months in advance of a contract ending. If O’Donnell’s contract is not renewed, that would not come as a surprise to many network insiders. Andy Lack, the chairman of NBC News, is no fan of O’Donnell’s program, sources say.

No idea what O'Donnell's ratings are.

But have never been a fan of his show or his style.

He's probably one of the MOST knowledgeable in the group on exactly how CONGRESS works. He worked there a number of years and understands how it works--in the weeds knowledge. His delivery is sorely lacking though. I also think he is a 'good guy'.

Maybe he will go to Fox. I have a feeling half of FOX's staff would drop dead along with half of FOX's audience.

He is a bit too serious for me. I like a little bit lighter style. But he has very good ratings and a big fan base. I wonder where these MSNBC pundits would go if they are let go?

Lack doesn't like ratings. I'm a little surprised he's still around. Everything he's tried to do at MSNBC just ends up hurting the ratings.

Yea have been reading various forums and blogs by viewers and there have been several write ins and what not over their decision to keep him. Also rumors of a lot of on air talent considering leaving if Lawrence ODonnell isn't renewed.

Another thing I don't get is now they have newer talent like Stephanie Ruhle and she gets 2 or 3 time slots a day. Hallee Jackson as well. Tell me again why Tamron Hall had to be let go???

don't really care for either one of them. They seem to have come from out of no where. Just all of the sudden they were given time slots. Some called it "white washing". People loved Tamnron Hall and didn't much appreciate the way she was treated. It made no sense. Like I say, I don't know why this guy Lack is still around. He's doing more damage than good.

Tamron Hall got better ratings than Ruhle. I don't have any issues with her, but why does she get several hour segments while others with good ratings get fired? Seems there is room enough for everyone during the course of the day. Now this Lack guy does look like he "white washed" the network. Joy Reid could be exiting as well.
