should a American president get to decide what is "real" news and "fake news"?

    How is he deciding anything?

He is an American citizen and the right to his opinion.

Not for me. This President is faux all the way. Nothing that comes out of him is true.

    Fox is fake,though.

Well then he apparently isn't a Nazi as you guys claim he's admitted.

    That's good to know.

Depends if the president is a straight up lying machine or a normal human.

    He's a joke.

Let him have his foolish rants. That just gives more fodder to the courts when they use his stated intent to rule against him.

And if he ever tries to do more about the so-called "fake news" than foolishly ranting, that will compel _even more_ Republicans to come out against him for 1st Amendment violations. There are plenty rebuking him now. That will free even more to jump on the bandwagon.

The 'fake news' meme has become meaningless through overuse. Most of this fake news is promoted on FB, with the original text being the higher profile stories of hyper right, hyper left or CT sources, which are C & P'd onto a new 'site'. The site could be in let's say, Macedonia, then these sites place stories on FB which link back. The site gains traffic and therefore, advertising and later as a result, remuneration. The nature of the stories is somewhat immaterial, as opposed to the amount of 'clicks' it will receive, but as a story gains momentum, it can appear on mainstream media even if the fact checking doesn't support it. The popularity of the story will rate or sell and there comes a point where this cannot be ignored.

I heard an excellent interview on this very subject with the editor of 'Buzzfeed'. He explained how these guys make quite a bit of money from advertising simply by cutting and pasting highly partisan and highly contentious stories onto a blog.

Trump wouldn't have a clue what was authentic or not, and he should STFU.

It's come to the point nobody believes him. I think even his base figured it out. They are just saying they believe him at this point but I bet a lot of them are checking what he says to them with other sources. After being embarrassed now so often by him they would truly be deserving of continued embarrasement if they repeated his statements and posts and took them as the truth about anything. Facts in black and white, pictures, emails, tapes of him contradicting himself are too abundant and are no nonsense facts, that Trump is a straight up liar. Not only once, not twice, but consistently over the last 2 years. How many times can they tolerate being made to look like fools and bumpkins in front of friends, family and coworkers?

Someone who gets caught lying, every day, for over 200 days, should be barred from the White House altogether. Just saying! #Idiocracy2017
