I am starting to keep my own score of the Media.....

And, last night, by MY PERSONAL measure, FOX failed.

    What am I talking about?

An Earthquake, in the nation RIGHT NEXT door.

    CNN covered it.
    MSNBC covered it.
    OAN covered it.

FOX was....surprise! surprise!...discussing the malaise of domestic politics.

THIS is the sort of thing, I am on about, when it comes to the media.

There is more to our world than Democrats, Republicans, and partisan arguments.

I'm always surprised at how much global news the US media doesn't cover. There is so much happening around the world that impact the US and yet our media spends so little time on it or explaining how it can or will affect the US. I think this is partly why there are so many people buying into "Make America Great Again".

The world is global and we're all connected so it's not so easy or smart to cut yourself off from other countries either in actions or words. I wish more Americans would travel even within the US. People would be surprised how VERY different we are here within our own country. In that respect, the media does a GREAT job sowing the seeds of "us and them". I've only been to 29 States here in the US, some 4 -5 times over for work. One of my bucket lists is to visit every US State.

So, in summary I agree with you. We have no idea what is going on around us.

CNN and MSNBC refused to air the Trump rambling speech on tax reform in North Dakota.

I have found that delving in to You Tube can give you some decent insight on some things. They only problem there is the AMOUNT of info, and, the simple fact that you seldom know the validity of the source.

That said, I am wondering, if CITIZEN journalism will not be the next big thing.

(When it comes to many of the social/entertainment matters, I feel that you tube beats anything on TV, but, that is likely because I can go SPECIFICALLY to the genre/actor/director/author/whatever that I want. Much the same with SCIENCE and technology.....)

    No biggie.

That is irrelevant to me. (Although, the daily speeches are getting old too. Before the 24/7 cycle of cable news, these speeches would have been mentioned, at most, in the nightly news. These days, we see speech after speech after speech.......and interview after interview after interview. NO WONDER the American Aristocrats think their shit don't stink. We can have a freaking Earthquake killing hundreds, and yet, what they have to say, about what they said, yesterday, is deemed more important by the American media....)

What is relevant, is that they were reporting on Mexico...which I was interested about.

We are all interested in Mexico and what happens,Rohr, but that is what the media has disintegrated to. I do give the cable stations credit for the coverage of our recent disasters.

There are a few Journalists that keep their programs on giving us new facts. Ali Velshi is one. Surprise,Nicole Wallace is another. Ari Melber(SC again.).

You may have others,I would like to know. I also like Shep Smith.

That brings me to another subject that is bothering me.if you do not mind. Donald Trump is constantly talking about putting our Country first. Of course he is not doing that, but after listening to Democrats drone on and on about every country, but this one,I am beginning to understand why Trump won. People are tired of hearing and fighting for every country but this one.

Meanwhile the Republican Congress is voting to take away, ignoring the fact this is not what people want.

Do you see the conflicting feelings here?

I can see and understand what you are saying. It's a balance that we have not been able to communicate or exercise very well. I can relate to almost every party in our country on one issue or another. For instance, we should definitely be adopting Rand Paul's proposal to pause foreign aid to some countries and re-direct it back to help those who have been impacted by the recent hurricanes. I also think he was spot on to suggest we take a closer look at the type of foreign aid we are providing. Some foreign aid was implemented a long time ago and may have run it's course. That is one of the problems with Congress. They don't do diligence with the legislation and funding they enact to make sure it's current or relevant.

I agree MaryAnne. I work with union guys and they have felt jilted for years. Disappointed and disgruntled. They all voted for Trump because of saying he would put America first. They feel we worry too much about special interests, other countries and foreign wars that they felt he was needed. They still like to hear his blustery speeches about it. They really liked his UN speech yesterday when he said "every country should put their own people first."

Well, to be honest, there was no real "prompting of empathy" from anyone.

Just REPORTING on what is going on.

(At least, it appeared that way.)

    Leave empathy to the individual.
    Thanks from Trish
