So I doubt it has much to do with Fox News in particular. It probably has a lot more to do with just how awful their competition is.
No, you are wrong. Fox and Trump are joined at the hip. They are as sold out to the Orange Moron as any network I have ever seen.

The pukes on CNN & MSNBC swoon over anything Mueller. He's trheir little Golden boy that they are so heavily invested in. Any discussion about the Hillary / DNC problems are
loaded with Trump diversion syndrome. Erin Burnett & Ari Melber take every opportunity to blast Trump. They are Hard DNC boot lickers.

Its talent departures and schedule changes are virtually unprecedented for a cable news network, yet it is ending the year in the lead, both in overall viewers and among those ages 25 to 54, the demographic coveted most by news show advertisers, over competitors MSNBC and CNN, according to Nielsen ratings.

In the past 12 months, Fox News has seen two of its top prime-time hosts, Megyn Kelly and Bill O’Reilly, leave the network. Kelly left in January for NBC News, where she is now hosting the third hour of the “Today” show, titled “Megyn Kelly Today.” O’Reilly was ousted after a New York Times report revealed that he had settled multiple sexual harassment lawsuits, and advertisers fled his program.

The revolving schedules are hard to keep up with, but they show the power of Fox News and its loyal viewership. And these changes, largely due to hosts being ousted amid sexual misconduct allegations, has not diminished the network’s ratings, which appear to be immune from the scourge of scandal. In overall viewers in the year to date, Fox News bested MSNBC by 39 percentage points, and CNN by 78 percentage points. With respect to the overall 25-54 demographic, CNN and MSNBC were tied at 370,000 viewers, and Fox News surpassed them by 27 percentage points, with 488,000 viewers.

Interesting isn't it? Portray your competition as political and the opposite of you and you get a political audience, NOT one that cares about scandal or moral values. One might believe the party of the "religious right" would be the ones to ask their members to step down. Instead, they elect them to a political office and flock to a news channel that is rocked with scandal, all while that news channel and they, attack others for less. Children can spot hypocrisy in a New York minute. Why does anyone think there is such a preponderance of "nones"? There always seems to be a big "last hurrah", before the party is over......Could this be it? How blatantly obvious can Fox News be? How many people in their audience are young?

I've seen the opposite in college kids actually.

They seem to pay closer attention than most adults do.
