Then they should just give the name. Not pretend like they're following some higher code which precludes giving out the name.

Why? Why should they violate their own journalistic standards simply because some folks think they can figure out who the unnamed suspect is?

Could you show me the part of the article in which they are "pretending" to do anything?

This thread isn't about whether the names should be released. It's about news outlets which in the name of responsibility withhold names, but then seem to go out of their way to make it so that anyone else who wants to know the name can find it. The news outlet is being a phony.
In all fairness, when I look at it, it's so disjointed I'm not sure anyone actually wrote it this way. I'll bet it was hacked up in editing, hence the extreme disconnect between initially playing the "protect the minor's identity" card and then immediately revealing it.

It is pretty funny though how they're right on top of each other like that.
    Thanks from Amelia

This news outlet: "We're honorable, so we're not going to tell you his name, but we're going to give you all the information you need to find his name in just a couple of minutes online."

If you don't get how that is hypocritical, then never mind.

The news reporter was reporting the information given to him or her by law enforcement. Law enforcement was not releasing his name at that time. That is what the reporter reported.

Who says the reporters did or didn't didn't want to keep his name anonymous? They just reported that the police hadn't released his name, which was accurate.

Can you link to that quote? I didn't see it when I read the linked article.

Meh. I have no feels about this editorial decision. The local crime reporter doubtless has a serious need to show local cops he or she can be trusted not to publish information that the cops specifically asked be withheld.

It's little more than a formality, to ANYONE involved.
