I assume you mean The Handmaid's Tale?

I have not seen the show, but I saw the film with Natasha Richardson (so-so) and read the book (excellent). Have you seen/read either?

SNL seemed to have no problem making fun of Sean Spicer. I need to watch The Handmaid's Tale myself; my sister loves the show. And I need to read the book. Since I'm going to try to write a dystopian novel about the future myself, it would behoove me to familiarize myself with other examples of the genre. I've read most other examples, I think. Like 1984 and Brave New World and a whole bunch of post-apocalyptic novels......

How far into the future is the novel set, Ian? Is it explicit or vague about that? And is it clear that it is set in America, or not?

I believe it is vague about that ... I no longer have a copy I can check (it was traded in when my now ex-wife made me pare down my paperback collection ... still mad about that 15 years later). It is explicit that it is set in the former United States, being called the Republic of Gilead. You can read about the novel here on Wikipedia, though nothing is a substitute for the novel itself. Like 1984 and Brave New World, I need to get another copy to read again. (At least I still have Animal Farm - the same copy my mother read to me as a young child.)

No head line comedian is going to do this dinner while trump is occupying DC.

The past two years were sub-par.

Trump made these morons go to the dinner. They were on the clock.

The shirts and skins joke was hilarious. Because it was so dead on. I wasn't in love with the Handmaid's Tale reference, not for any offensiveness reason, just because it was only mildly funny. I also liked the burning lies and using the ashes for a great "smokey eye" line. Thought that was funny.

The Hulu series is pretty darn good in my opinion.
