Problem is it is you that has to take him out of context to falsely accuse him of lying

Finally got my reading glasses so will be able to move faster and just hit highlights.

As I expected Atkkisson documents examples of smear artists from both sides of the aisle. While discussing Hillary Clinton's " vast right wing conspiracy" against her husband and without totally affirming that conspiracy theory, she does point to Richard Mellon Scaife and The American Spectator whose work as smear artist began before Clinton took office. (btw, each of the Troopers in troopergate were paid for their information).

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...=.a851733923b3

He was a major underwriter of the American Spectator magazine’s Arkansas Project to find evidence of financial and personal misdeeds by the Clintons in the 1990s. The effort included David Brock’s magazine story containing allegations from four Arkansas state troopers that they helped procure women for then-Gov. Bill Clinton.
Mr. Scaife personally hired a freelance writer to try to establish that either President Clinton or then-first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton was instrumental in the death of Deputy White House Counsel Vincent W. Foster Jr. in 1993. Foster, a former law-firm partner of the first lady, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the mouth in Fort Marcy Park in Fairfax County.
But the most stunning and extensive documentation is for David Brock, who started his smear career working for Spectator. More on this later.

Lying IS his context. It's what he does. All the time. He's on record with more than 3,000 lies since he took office.

Yet you ignore all the Obama lies. You can take what the liberal media say and ignore it since it is lies and fake news

Atkkisson just reports the phenomenon and identifies the smear artists, which is what I expected when I picked up the book.
I think real news is valuable. I also think, that even if people are too stupid to appreciate real news as opposed to editorials, we should figure out how to make real news available, so that those folks that would like to think for themselves, would have a reasonable chance to be informed. Those folks who can't be pried off from the Kool Aid trough with a crow bar, can simply exercise their right to be ignorant I guess. I don't think we should have to have a PHD in analytics, an informant in the state department, and a little orphan annie decoder ring to be able to separate real news from editorials. There has to be a better way to help the overall populace to be better informed with facts.

I wish the advocates would start a campaign to hold our news to the standards in the NPR ethics manual. NOT government imposed, but insisting that we adopt the journalistic ethics we have helped to pay for through our taxes. This is one of the antidotes for the smear.

NPR Ethics Handbook | How to apply our standards to our journalism.

We hold those who serve and influence the public to a high standard when we report about their actions. We must ask no less of ourselves. Journalism is a daily process of painting an ever truer picture of the world. Every step of this process - from reporting to editing to presenting information - may either strengthen or erode the public’s trust in us. We work hard to be worthy of that trust and to protect it.
Our purpose is to pursue the truth. Diligent verification is critical. We take great care to ensure that statements of fact in our journalism are both correct and in context. In our reporting, we rigorously challenge both the claims we encounter and the assumptions we bring. We devote our resources and our skills to presenting the fullest version of the truth we can deliver, placing the highest value on information we have gathered and verified ourselves.
To tell the truest story possible, it is essential that we treat those we interview and report on with scrupulous fairness, guided by a spirit of professionalism. We make every effort to gather responses from those who are the subjects of criticism, unfavorable allegations or other negative assertions in our stories. What we broadcast and put online is edited for time and clarity. Whenever we quote, edit or otherwise interpret what people tell us, we aim to be faithful to their meaning, so our stories ring true to those we interview. In all our stories, especially matters of controversy, we strive to consider the strongest arguments we can find on all sides, seeking to deliver both nuance and clarity. Our goal is not to please those whom we report on or to produce stories that create the appearance of balance, but to seek the truth.
