The difference between old and new TV documentaries

In the 1950's and 60's networks like CBS aired serious documentaries on many subjects with the idea of educating the public....as a public service.
Today, with accountants running the networks (Like CNN) the idea is to cobble together some old news videos and slap together a documentary on the cheap with the intent of saving money.
In other words....public education is of little to no interest to today's corporate media giants.
That was not the case when Edward R . Murrow and Fred Friendly were in charge.
    Sad!
