He lives in the South where the neighbors look out for each other and my sister and nephew lives across the street.
He sounds like a lovely, lovely man.

    You are most fortunate!

I am very lucky to have been raised by both my parents. He is a very generous, loving man. He always raises a gigantic garden every summer and this year he set up a farmers market at his church along with his farming buddies and the veggies were free to whoever wanted them. He ran the program every week for 6 weeks. He would give anyone the shirt off his back..when he passes on, it will be standing room only at his funeral, that is for sure. Everyone loves him. He used to take care of the oldies in the small town, by taking them to the doctor but I asked him to stop, because he was driving sometimes 2 hours away and I was getting a little nervous about that.
    Thanks from Madeline

Seems a bit extreme to me. How about we enforce that laws we have on the books and quit trying to blame innocent people for the acts of criminals.

The gun owner should be prosecuted for failing to secure his weapons. At the very least, he should be prohibited from owning guns - ever.

I'm still waiting for the banning of airplanes since 911 or Fertilizer is really dangerous in the wrong hands

Neither airplanes nor fertilizer are specifically intended for killing people. In fact, if you developed airplanes that couldn't harm people, or fertilizer that couldn't be made into explosives, you'd be a rich man.

On the other hand, if you develop a semi-automatic rifle that can't kill people, I doubt you'll have many takers.

My sons own several automatic airsoft rifles, doubt they could really harm anyone. But they sell pretty well.

Neither is Hurricanes, but they kill people sometimes. To stop people from killing people you would have to control people's minds somehow, because there is to many ways people can cause destruction. If you prevent innocent people from protecting themselves you would even have more loss of life. It would be like taking guns from our Marines before they landed in North Korea with the hope of stopping combat between two opposing forces.

But it's WAY more difficult to kill large numbers of people with modern high-capacity mostly-automatic rifles.
