She had a private detective following them, and had fought with the mistress inside the building (in front of the step-daughter). I think you are correct, and she was convicted of second degree murder, but I disagree.

I really loathe this double standard that (to my eye) allows wealthy women to murder with relative impunity, as long as the victims are unfaithful husbands.

It was Michigan, but northern rural areas can have similar attitudes to the deep South.

More important to the acceptance of the battered woman defense was the passage of the Violence Against Women act. The defense succeeded because the sufferers could get no help, but after VAW, the prosecutors and cops had new duties and battered women's shelters were opened and funded.

I guess I never accepted the charge. I think she should have gotten 50 years, if not LWOP.

A Brooklyn woman was sentenced to 17 years in prison in connection with the beating death of her 4-year-old son.

An Ohio man convicted of murder in the beating death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The Repository reports a judge sentenced 27-year-old Brent Fields to a 30-years-to-life term Monday while criticizing his "total indifference" to the boy's death.

I could post dozens of more horrific crimes in which the sentences weren't adequate. Why you chose this one to get upset about I can't understand.

There's bad, and then there's worse. If you treat lesser murders the same as particularly cruel murders involving children, you are making a sad statement about who's life you value more.

Clearly endorsing violence...endorsing those they happen to prefer/side with to be judge, jury and executioner.
Don't be silly. @Eve1was being sarcastic, not endorsing violence.

Plus 15 years for a single murder—even premeditated murder—is fine with me. Of course each case is different, but it doesn't seem unreasonable that after 15 years the woman is no longer a danger and has served enough time to prove this.
Not I. She knew about the affair, thanks to the private investigator she hired. That's also how she located the pair that night. I never thought sudden passion was an adequate defense in this case.

It upsets me that the jury seemed to feel that he deserved it. He didn't beat her. Just cheated on her.
