Over and over we heard things like "he swears like me" "he behaves like me" or stuff like "he is that guy at the bar, the consummate anti politician." They didn't pay attention to what he does now it was all chants and his persona. They didn't want the well spoken traditional politician, but the guy down the street. Its also what voters are saying in Michigan about Kid Rock potentially running, "he is the average guy." Its the new normal for right now.
You're right. And God help us.

It was like that between George W Bush and Gore. People voted for "W" because he was the guy they most wanted to have a beer with. OMG!!!. Would you pick your surgeon that way? Why are people sooo stupid? Go have a beer with the village idiot for goodness sake but pick the guy with the brains to run the country!!!

I saw that "who do you most want to have a beer with" poll has never been wrong since its been asked. People actually will vote for that person. Its referred to as the likability test.

I would have acknowledged that she was president and would have always referred to her as such. I would not have been throwing childlike name insults at her, just as I always referred to the previous president as President Barack H Obama. He won the election and I respect the office of the presidency. No where did I every refer to President Donald J Trump as a great president. He's new to politics and still in that first year. He's had to deal with opposition at a higher level than any of the 43 men to hold that office previously did. The Republicans may not have been happy that Obama won the election but they did not drag out all of his nominations. Look at Clinton, he actually got impeached by the Republicans but the two parties still worked together and things got done. Right now, we have real gridlock.

George W Bush is graduated from Yale and Harvard. That's hardly the village idiot.

As I have said before we here on political forums are pretty knowledgeable about politics. Most Americans are not. Over 60% have no idea which party is currently in charge and 70% don't even know who their senator is. Civics classes are gone and most don't know how govt works. So pretty much since the 60s people have grown to rely on tv and media more and more for who they choose as president. What they look like, how they act, if they are funny etc now means more. Sad but true.

You nailed it. I've had conversations with people who told me that they were voting for this candidate or that candidate but knew nothing about the candidate except what they had seen on 30 and 60 second television commercials. This was very true during the recent Handel versus Ossoff race here in Georgia. A few years ago, our lieutenant governor, Casey Cagle was in town. He went to the local high school. A reporter told me that almost no one had heard of him and did not know what his job was. These included seniors, ready to vote.

Here on the political forums, both sides left and right, we know more about politics than the average individual because we are interested in it. Others are more interested to know who will get the rose on some show or who might get the nod on American Idol.

Yes, exactly, and the "liberal media" that wouldn't let him establish his agenda.
