Should we launch a preemptive military strike against North Korea?

I heard today that a plurality of recently surveyed Republicans said "yes".

Republicans Want Trump to Go to War With North Korea Before Kim Jong Un Attacks the U.S., New Poll Shows

    What is your opinion?

Polls said that Hillary would win the election.

    Polls are not reliable.

But, they are a great topic of conversation, so keep em coming...

If it were more specific, I might have answered.

    It was a bit broad.

I would support launching preemptive strikes on their nuclear infrastructure.

No, fuck no. You'd kill millions of South Koreans, possibly Japanese too, and draw China into war to defend NK as they have treaty obligations.

Not to mention the US citizens living in South Korea.

I'd have to say to no to a first strike.

As horrible as it is to contemplate, the USA can absorb a nork nuke attack.. at which point the whole of North Korea will be a glass parking lot within an hour.

Now, is the us justified in doing so, yes.

Should it happen? That's a tough call... Should have been done 10-20 years ago, before the nukes entered the equation.

    Pro:
    - they have stated their intention to attack the us
    - the represent a credible threat to the world
    - will provide a real opportunity for reunification

    Cons:
    - it will near certainly be nuclear
    - there will be a high chance of massive casualties
    - it risks escalating beyond North Korea

I'm sure more could be added to both sides, but ultimately, the question isn't so much an IF question, but a WHEN question.

"Would" be a glass parking lot. Of course, that assumes that lil' Rocket Man is genuinely an idiot.

I am opposed on principal to preemptive military strikes based only upon fear of what an adversarial nation might do.
