Probably our most important asset internationally is the good will of the countries we share the planet with - on that score, trump has made us worse off.

Your retirement account was going up before Trump and is still going up it is just a continuation of the economic upswing. I am worried about long term and Trump has done ZERO in terms of getting deals done in international trade despite pulling out of agreements. Chinese and European countries are very grateful to the US for doing that as they have picked up the slake. What about your take home pay? What about your monthly expenses=the same, up or down? There are more troops overseas in harms way now than under Obama so no they aren't scaled back in the middle east and so much for terrorism at home going down=there has been a spike this year and Trump said he would make America safer=he fails=time to FIRE TRUMP.

He had and has no clue the impact he can have on individual companies or even an individual sector with one stupid move or tweet (or maybe he does and is having his friends pay him off when he does it?). Diversification was my way of protecting against the idiot and chief. So far so good but given the lack of progress his administration has in made in international trade deals with the international community I may have to look at moving the whole thing to funds with as much international holdings as I can get. US industry sectors are going to be beaten up by European and Asian companies in most sectors. I am seriously considering taking investments to an aggressive 80% international and keeping just 20% domestic. I seriously don't like the way things are going long term under Trump as it relates to the US but the international markets should benefit as he keeps shying away from trade deals. I'm looking at funds with representation in Europe, Latin America and the Pacific Rim.
Hope that's working out for you?

I stayed put in mutual funds and have done very well.

My mutual funds ARE my diversification.

Good mutual funds run by professionals are still the best way for MOST Americans to invest.

And, yes, I have plenty of international exposure, as well as a good mix of stocks and bonds.

Actually picking up stocks at the low point and keeping them to see an increase in price and selling them at their high point and then putting that money into mutual funds waiting for a down point again in stocks is the way to take advantage of the markets when everybody else is running away from it. You don't get rich running with the herd otherwise the whole herd would be rich instead of just the 1% (excluding those that were born into the 1% they are just living off someone else's smarts).

    Glad you are doing well.

I have only owned two individual stocks and a few bonds and CD's over the years.

I decided long ago to just go with mutual funds and leave the decisions to the pros.

The whole market is due for a "correction" and actually overdue according to some so called experts.

I'll hate it if/when it happens, but have gone through it before...

Of course I am not better off. I see the entire framework of America going back decades being dismantled by an ingrate with the intellectual chops of a lesser primate. Nothing about Trump is better, nothing.

    There is your real answer.

No all this whining from a bunch of psychos suffering from TDS.
The rich who have millions in the stock market are thrilled...and that’s because they eased the regulations that hurt you
A quick question...did you praise obama when the stock market almost tripled?

    Sort of better off.

Under Obama I was a bit jealous not to have a president with such class.

Now under Trump I'm just thankful not to have such a bigot preside over my country.
