I never saw one of these taken in the field as we had no use for it. It would require being accompanied by a group supervisor or better if taken out of the office.

What the hell would we have ever used it for???

Same time frame for me, but I was in the rear with the gear, BN Materiel Readiness NCO, I had 23 clerks and jerks assigned to me to keep a full Mech Batttailon covered with paperwork for parts and supplies. This is where that high AFQT score got me sent to TAERS school and as honor graduate I got the E-7 slot as an E-5
    Thanks from Hollywood

On a range, sure, it would be interesting to try some models out. I wouldn't want to own them, but I'd give it a go. I remember firing a Bren in Army Cadets and that was cool, but even back then it was ancient.

The Army wanted me to go the NCO Academy in Fort Riley Kansas, but we had an IG coming up and the BN Commander absolutely refused to let me leave. Me, I just wanted the fuck out....

Just think about how many Anti-fas you could take out with that 3.5 inch rocket launcher...

Full auto can be fun.. I've live fired m134s.

Best shotgun rounds for home defense are #4 buck IMHO. Penetration without overpenetration.

In training we had a shooting contest and the winning team would get to fire an MP5.

Same thing. Haha. They let us fire it - single round. Not going to pay tax money for cadets to fire off a full magazine I guess.

But would I go shoot a fully automatic weapon at a gun range?

    No.

They’re prohibited and im a civilian. That would be illegal.

I’d go to the range with a semi automatic and have a fun night.

I've seen more than enough AKs, as a kid in awar zone. And seen the carnage from them. No thanks. I see nothing "fun", in weapons. Weapons are not meant for "fun". It is this sort of immature attitude why you Americans have all your gun violence. Cowboy nation...
    Thanks from BigBob and Hollywood
