Do domestic abusers belong in Olympics?

Russian hockey player Vyacheslav "Slava" Voynov was suspended from the NHL (LA Kings) in 2014, after reports, and a criminal investigation alleging, that he viciously attacked and beat his wife, Marta Varlamova, at home

Marta stood by her man, and, in 2015, returned to Russia with him after he left the NHL: Slava Voynov leaving Kings for Russia after domestic violence troubles | CBC Sports

Voynov then played for SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL

He also made the national team

and is now playing in Pyeongchang

Marta seems to have forgot and forgiven everything, they look like a happy couple, these days, and they had a second child, a baby son, Roman, last year.

It could be, though, that, like too many Russian women, she is simply conditioned to endure such crap from her man...

It's not just Western media who are concerned about Voynov's participation in the Olympics, especially given the Russian team's already wrecked reputation. Plenty of Russian feminists also see it as an insult, a slap in the face, to all of them, their gender, in a country where 1 in 3 females routinely experience sexual assault; and domestic violence kills up to 14,000 of them ever year... I've read comments of one lady who is convinced that was not the first time he beat Marta, nor, likely, the last...

A good message could have been sent here. But wasn't. I agree...

What about you guys? Should he have been allowed into the Olympics, with his past?

The Olympics don't belong in the Olympics.

Corruption, scandal, hunger and homelessness serve as the backdrop for every billion spent on this useless spectacle.

Honestly, yes... The whole thing is pretty much ruined, at this point. Commercialization, corruption, and geopolitics have messed it up beyond repair. It's sad

"The Olympics" ceased being The Olympics when paid, professional athletes were allowed to participate.

No...'domestic abusers' do not belong there.

I don't know why any players from Russia are allowed to play. Thought they all got banned.

You see how they displaced all those families in Rio? There is a few documentaries about how whole town blocks of people were moved so they could build their Olympic city.

    Same in Sochi.

    Families, such as this woman's

were evicted, and their homes demolished

Those who did not move out voluntarily, were evicted by force, by armed bailiffs and other thugs employed by the government

And the corrupt judge who signed off on the eviction orders threw a celebrity studded $2 million wedding for her daughter last year: A wedding for $2 million

    Naturally, many people were enraged...

And before that, there was Beijing, mass evictions there also...
