Well, when showing up to the table required the agreement to denuclearize, it seems the issue is a discussion on how things will play out as opposed to if the outcome will be good.

That sounds interesting. I don't know if it's a great deal but it sounds intriguing. I'd want to know how we'd verify disarmament. And then I'd want to know where we'd put bases to replace the ones in South Korea.

There is a possibility that Trump may just inadvertently start the war he wants but with the wrong country...China.

Q: In what I view as the extremely unlikely event that we reach a 'peace deal' with North Korea, why would we need to 'replace' the bases in South Korea?!?

Why not just bring the boys (and girls) home?

Do you think of the military as a jobs program?

More and more, I think a major war between China and America is coming down the pike, but not just yet. Not just yet. I envision a Sino-American War around 2025 or so. And then a Second Sino-American War around 2034 that will be simply devastating to America, because by then, China will be considerably ahead of America in science and technology.

I think if the US gets in a major war this century it will be with itself.

No one else pisses you guys off as much as each other these days.

    *edit* Except maybe me :-)

I could also envision a big chunk of America breaking away from the rest of America. Pacifica, it might call itself, and could include California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and MAYBE Alaska. Colorado would want to join, but Utah would probably not, so that might present a problem. Same with New Mexico/Arizona. The U.S. West is not Trump-land. He is pretty much reviled out here. I sense a massive cultural difference emerging between the East Coast and the West Coast.

The Rim States vs the Fly-Overs. Yeah.

It does make some sense. But realistically I don’t see it. I know I wouldn’t want to take on the US military on their home turf. I’d imagine even the most radical seperatist would like to keep breathing.

Shrug. Might manifest itself as a split between different segments of the U.S, military and, instead of fighting each other, they might agree to just peacefully go their separate ways. Not ENTIRELY unknown. At the end of the Cold War, Czechoslovakia more or less peaceably split into two, the Czech Republic (now Czechia) and Slovakia.

To expand a bit on what I'm saying: I think it is quite plausible that America could fall apart as swiftly and as suddenly and as shockingly as the Soviet Union did.

These days, the United States of America is not so United.
