Unfortunately public officials being discussed in the press do not get that same luxury - as the standard is much higher and I believe that needs to change. Everyone should be treated equally when it comes to our free speech rights.

And calling for the same standards to be used across the board when it comes to defamation is not being against free speech.
If that were true, Trump would already be imprisoned for repeatedly claiming Obama is not an American.

Listen, you are pretending to be for free speech, and I busted you pretending.

We can continue this for the next hour or so. I'm down, and that's no Trump lie, either.

As is usually the case... you are missing the entire point of my comments. Obama is a public official - so it is extremely difficult to sue people for printing lies about him. That's the whole point.

So by pointing out how easy it is for people to libel Obama without any consequences just makes my point for me.

No, actually I just busted you for lying about me. And the only one pretending here is you - who for some weird reason thinks he can read my mind.

And for the third time: free speech does not include defamation. That is why we have defamation, libel, and slander laws.

Yet you think people spouting lies about Hillary should be prosecuted. I just saw you say so in post #11.

I am giving you my honest assessment though I admit it may be somewhat prejudiced on account of you being a Trump supporter.

    That is the truth.

I believe people who print false and damaging stories about others should be vulnerable to lawsuits (that's actually what I said). And usually they are - except if the person is a public official as was the case with Mrs. Clinton.

I really don't give a shit what your so-called assessment of me is. That is the truth.

So perhaps you should go find someone who actually cares what you think of them to discuss your personal assessments with. I am here to debate political topics - not listen to internet strangers pretend to know what I am thinking.

Now that Trump is in office, of course you want to limit free speech. You are horribly offended by the things that are said about the man: that he's a philanderer, that he's a liar, that he's a cheat.
