Is GOP in need of a background check?

What's with the GOP? Ever since 2008, when Obama got elected they have been acting so irrationally and behaving like children who have had no training in manners. Beginning with Joe Wilson, who yelled "You lie" at the President during his healthcare address, which is strictly against House decorum, to newly elected Senator Ted Cruz (from Texas, for shame) suggesting that extremists may have paid Hagel for speeches! Video below shows one Senator voicing displeasure at Senator Cruz who impugned the patriotism of the nominee and in essence called him a liar, violating 2 of the Senate Rules of decorum. Hagel, a recipient of a Purple Heart, infantry squad leader in Viet Nam and on top of that, a Republican. How stupid is that? Sounds to me that they hate him more for associating with Obama.

Now we also have a member of Congress, Representative Stockman (from Texas, dang!) inviting Ted Nugent to the SOTU, a person who was investigated by the FBI for making threats against the President. What the hell is the matteer with them? Fortunately, Nugent didn't act his whacko self, or it would have been a real circus, thanks to the GOP. And last but not least, Marco Rubio, the GOP's appeal to Hispanics/latinos totally misrepresenting what the President said. Was he listening to a Faux News filtered version of the SOTU?

It appears to me that the GOP is in need of a background check, there is too many instances to call it coincidence, too many have displayed mental problems.

Rubio has already exhausted his 15 minutes of fame. I had the same reaction to him last night as you. It's as if these guys don't realize that people just heard Obama speak for themselves. I don't know. Maybe he was practicing his response, instead of listening to what Obama was saying. I gave him a shot. But, the minute he started whining about Obama picking on Republicans, I just muted him. He made a classic blunder with the water grab. Then, as if that weren't entertaining enough, he played it off by saying "God has a funny way of reminding us we're human". Are you kidding me? So God made you look like a complete dweeb during your big chance to demonstrate you're President material?

Yep, then we have the two Teds. Cruz and Nugent. Birds of a feather. Cruz got a smack down for his comments, as he should have. Nugent , no surprise, kept his mouth shut for once, as he should have. But he opened his big mouth later disrespecting one of the victims of gun violence, who objected to him being at the SOTU. I seriously wish someone would just punch him in the balls during one of his little made for tv rants - so that the world could see.

    Background check huh?

    Yeah, maybe so.

I first had my doubts when the GOP intensely opposed the POTUS encouraging school kids to work hard in school. That was August 2009.

Then there was the time the House GOP passed a bill outlawing Obamacare, which bill stated that it would become law not withstanding the actions of the Senate or the President. It was like a trick question for a 9th grade civics class. An easy question.

They aren't crazy. They'd just rather be right than effective.

Ted Cruz insinuating that Chuck Hagel might be a traitor was abhorrent. Ted Cruz is a giant asshole.

A background check of Joe Wilson certainly would have turned some things up. He was a member of the white supremacist organization Sons of Confederate Veterans. The Sons of Confederate Veterans Tea Party organization issued strong praise of Wilson for the "you lie" freakout. It was once a civil war reenactment group, but it was taken over by neo-confederate white supremacist extremists and it appears that Wilson remained a member. He listed it among the organizations he was a member of on his own biography page until shortly after the "you lie" incident- 4 years after it overtly went white supremacist and began publishing a completely over the top militant white supremacist magazine and sending it to its members.

Wilson started his political career working for Strom Thurmond in 1962, when he was still an overtly segregationist politician.

When Thurmond's 78 year old bi-racial daughter publicly acknowledged who her father was, Wilson blew up accusing her of smearing his name by drawing attention to Thurmond's interracial romances when he was younger before he was married. Ironically, the reason his daughter went public was because she wanted to join the United Daughters of the Confederacy- the somewhat more legitimate female counterpart to the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.

Joe Wilson also was one of the only South Carolina state senators to vote against removing the confederate flag from the capitol building in Columbia, SC.

But, background checking him only matters to the extent that the voters in South Carolina's second congressional district care about any of this. Given that they have re-elected him twice since this was all pretty major news even nationally, and definitely in South Carolina, they don't seem to.

Seems a little extreme to call Sons of Confederate Veterans a white supremecist organization: Sons of Confederate Veterans - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm not seeing it. Some factions might be, but this guilt by association seems a little far fetched.

Here are some quotes from the SCV magazine's Southern Mercury that might change your view on it:

After the turn of the 20th century, the white Southerners had disfranchised and segregated the blacks, in perhaps the mildest reaction possible at that time to the blacks’ transgressions. The blacks—then a childlike people—had been selling their votes to the Democrats en masse for $.25 apiece in national elections.”
Previously, anthropologists had routinely recorded the notable differences in IQ among the races; but at Columbia, a liberal cultural anthropologist named Franz Boas…decreed that there were no differences in IQ among the races, and the only biological differences between the blacks and whites were of superficial nature… Meanwhile, the liberals in the media heaped special praise upon black athletes, musicians, singers, and writers—and treated them as typical of the black race. The liberals were creating a false image of the blacks in America as a highly competent people who were being held back by the prejudiced white Southerners.”
I believe that [Obama’s] rhetoric and anti-white legislative proposals would stir up racial riots. If he were running for re-election, these riots would turn into an exceedingly violent nature that would seriously damage race relations in America, and leave entire sections of some of our cities in ruins.
The SPLC moved them from being a "southern heritage organization" to a "confederate organization" in 2002 when the white supremacist faction of the organization began getting seats on the leadership council and then to a "neo-confederate white supremacist organization" in 2006 when the white supremacist faction won the majority of seats in the leadership election and started publishing the white supremacist magazine the quotes above come from. Sounds right to me.
