    Evidence for God

    A few have asked so I have created this thread. I have made it clear that the evidence will not be absolute but it is evidence nonetheless.

    But why doesn't God provide proof? Because those who believe by faith are blessed.

    Why is the bible full of parables, why doesn't it just spell everything out clearly?

    Jesus said:
    This is why I speak to them in parables:
    "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
    "You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
    you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
    For this people's heart has become calloused;
    they hardly hear with their ears,
    and they have closed their eyes.
    Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    hear with their ears, understand with their hearts
    and turn, and I would heal them.

    If you live in a desert and never leave it, you won't find a shred of evidence for the existence for polar ice caps or polar bears. If you live a world apart from God and never venture beyond it, you won't find a shred of evidence for God.

    So this is the first post. If you are serious about wanting to find God then the only path which will actually lead you to God is to Pray and read the Bible.

    Psalm 19

    For the director of music. A psalm of David.

    1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they display knowledge.
    3 There is no speech or language
    where their voice is not heard. [a]
    4 Their voice [b] goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.
    In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,
    5 which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,
    like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
    6 It rises at one end of the heavens
    and makes its circuit to the other;
    nothing is hidden from its heat.
    7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
    reviving the soul.
    The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
    making wise the simple.
    8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
    giving joy to the heart.
    The commands of the LORD are radiant,
    giving light to the eyes.
    9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
    enduring forever.
    The ordinances of the LORD are sure
    and altogether righteous.
    10 They are more precious than gold,
    than much pure gold;
    they are sweeter than honey,
    than honey from the comb.
    11 By them is your servant warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.
    12 Who can discern his errors?
    Forgive my hidden faults.
    13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
    may they not rule over me.
    Then will I be blameless,
    innocent of great transgression.
    14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
    be pleasing in your sight,
    O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

    The universe and many of the things in it demonstrate that an intelligent person created it. A watch cannot exist without a watchmaker.

    There are numerous examples: the human eye, the intricate inter-connectedness of nature, the fine-tuning of the universe, etc. But no example is any more convincing than any other. You will either 'see' it or you will not.

    Man has a God shaped hole in his heart. The conscience has been given to us by God. Throughout all of history and geography mankind has acknowledged a morality that is remarkable similar. We have been given a set of right and wrong.

    Re: Evidence for God

    People have met God and walked with God. God speaks to us and calls us to Him. His voice is still and small but those who listen will hear.

    Many people throughout history have been given revelations from god. Some people have also been given false revelations or have imagined them.

    The Revelation of many have been brought together to form a consistent view which is Crhistianity.

    The combined testimony of many people will not convince the skeptic, but when some of you have a subjective experience like the others' then you will understand too.

    Re: Evidence for God

    The Bible is a collection of material which all points to God. Many of you claim it is a clever work devised by men.

    My claim is that it is not possible for men to have created such an intricate and consistent work.

    Especially when we consider that it was written by over 44 persons over the course of 20(?) centuries. They could not have colluded. some of the later authors could have read the works of the earlier authors, but even then the book is so hard to understand that each one would need to be aware of all the mysteries and symbolism of the previous authors to create their own mysteries and symbolism in a consistent manner. Current students of the bible have a hard enough time understanding the allusions, parables, poetry, symbolism, etc. with the help of a vast amount of reference books. But we are expected to believe that people who lived before all these "helps," people who lived in different times, cultures, and had different backgrounds understood each other enough to create a cohesive story with a unified theme and a unified 'hidden' sub-theme. In some instances it is even apparent that the prophets did not even understand what they were writing themselves. for example the prophet Isaiah wrote of the political climate of his times. He wrote of real people who lived at his time. Yet later it is evident that these people were archtypes illustrating a story that would happen thousands of years later.

    You're on one hell of a biblical rampage for some reason. What's up with that?

    Re: Evidence for God

    The Bible also contains no inconsistencies with the real world in terms of the geography, history, and science that it describes.

    There are numerous examples of foreknowledge. instances in which the writers of the Bible knew things that would not be knowable to people of their time.

    Here is a website that lists some of the foreknowledge. A couple of the examples don't hold water. So I don't need to be hearing from you, telling me things I already know. Only one example needs to be true for the foreknowledge to be real.

    Scientific foreknowledge in the Bible

    But the bible says the sun rises and we all know that the earth revolves around the sun. yes, but despite the fact that the Bible describes a scientific understanding the bible is not a science book. We all speak of the sun coming up and we all know it does not when we say it. This is phenomenological language; describing things how they appear and not how they are. We all do it.

    There have been multiple times that people said "the bible claims that there was a city called Jericho and since there is no such city the Bible must be wrong." But then archaeologists find Jericho and the naysayers start over again with another example. This is still happening today. But we need only wait and the evidence will come in. In fact, just the other day they found outside evidence for the existence of Pontius Pilate whom many said was a fictitious person. Believe it or not people still say that Jesus was a fictitious person. Even though there is more documentary evidence for the existence of Jesus than there is for the existence of Julius Caesar and a number of other ancient celebrities.

    But don't the descriptions of miracles prove that the Bible is inconsistent with science? No. God is the creator of the laws of the universe. If he wants to bend them he can. It happens very rarely and no one has shown that any of the miracles did not happen.
