    The coin did not flip

The Packers flail with cleavers but are pecked to death by blood-red Cardinals. Announcers giddy with astonishment. One for the books. Talk of divine intervention.

Bad toss. Coin did not flip. No more chance; destiny rules. How many wishes left on the bucket list of thrills? When a jaded nation has seen everything, it is ready to die.

The slaughter to come is probably beyond our imagining. ― Cameron Diaz as Malkina, The Counselor

This is why I like the College playoff system, both sides get the ball, until one fails.

I don't like any of the OT schemes. I never had a problem with a time limited game ending in a tie. OT football isn't real football. Might as well just flip a coin -- if you simply must declare a winner.

Except a tie doesn't work well for playoffs.

And no playoffs doesn't work well for enhancing revenue. That makes sense for the NFL, I suppose, since it is an openly for-profit endeavor.

I hope that ESPN doesn't manage to convert CFB into the mini-NFL before I'm dead and gone.

There actually is no rule that says the coin must flip in the air, in football. However, the referee used his judgement in this case and stated that the flip wasn't good. It really had no bearing on anything because the same side won both the toss that was not good and the second toss.

But that IS the point. The toss made no difference. The future, or at least large parts of it, is already determined. We are living in a scripted reality. The jaw-dropping moments in sports have become like the jaw-dropping moments in politics. The "gods" are dropping hints that it is all one big cosmic joke. And one hint is the coin that wouldn't flip; the gods aren't leaving anything to chance.
