I've met thousands of Christians, and been to dozens of churches. I don't think I've ever, in real life, met a person who believes in God as a guy with a beard who lives in the sky. Or who believes that God punishes the sinful with diseases or injuries.

Yet I watch news and TV and that's the ONLY Christians I see. Nothing else. Just, "God gave that man AIDS" or "God sent that hurricane because of teen sex".

I don't know anybody like that in real life.
    Thanks from boontito

God's telling you through your body. Jackass.
My dad used to tell a joke.
A town gets hit with a flood. So rescuers are boating through town to evacuate people and they come across a guy sitting on his porch. They offer to help and he declines saying God will take care of him. The waters keep rising, forcing the man to his second floor. Another boat offers to pick him up and he again declines, saying God will provide. The waters keep rising and he has to go to his roof. A helicopter comes along but he refuses to get on, again saying God will provide for him.
So the waters keep rising and he drowns. He gets to the Pearly Gates and St Peter greets him. The man is disappointed and asks why God didn't save him. St Peter responds, "We sent two boats and a helicopter. What else did you want?"

This is probably because you probably personally know more church going Christians than the people who write tv shows.

Some of them believe like that. The real extreme fire and brimstone type denominations, but they are small in number. Not many people want the crap scared out of them on a Sunday morning.

What makes for a better tv news story?

"People bringing dinners to shut ins."

    Or

"Crazy person says natural disaster is God's judgment."

Very true...good deeds often go unnoticed while idiocy is splashed all over the news. This reflects on the preferences of the readers or viewers. They demand this type of news so they can outrage all they want. Decent people are boring, drama is stimulating in this Country these days.

Well, I would argue that I have met Christians on an everyday basis that believe in a God that is about punishment, however, that is an entirely different discussion.
