One woman accosted me in front of Whataburger. I was eating my food in the car. She said she wanted money for food and I actually didn't have any one me. I had brought only enough to pay for my meal. I gave her my receipt which you call a number and do a one minute survey for a free burger. She was angry. Didn't even want it. I guess she wasn't really hungry ....

Before there was an invasion I'd ask people is food really what you want? And if the answer was yes I'd say ok then tell me your order and I will bring it around when I exit the drive-through.

I will even give $1 towards a beer if someone is honest that is what they want. But I can't all the time. And not to the aggressive ones.
I can see where a woman at a bus stop might feel afraid to give money, especially if she has to open her purse to get it. I don't doubt your stories at all.

I guess one advantage of living in this blue collar neighborhood of mine is, I don't look prosperous. Hell, I probably look homeless myself most of the time. My standards of dress for running up to the store have fallen off to "I'm not naked".

LOL. My nearby store owners have seen all my pyjamas.

I used to dress better when I was homeless...

Because instead of hanging out with other tramps, I picked the very richest town available.

Now, I wasn't in a suit necessarily, just a clean button-up shirt and some slacks, and I was never hassled by cops, it just never occurs to them a tramp would be staying in one of the richest towns in America.

What they aren't looking for, they often don't see, even when it is right in front of them.

In Nashville I was about two blocks from the old Belle Meade plantation house, right next to an old limestone mansion, stayed there for a month and a half.

Issaquah is also pretty prosperous, not as rich as Belle Meade, but look at their latest project, a new Swedish Medical center on the hill overlooking the town...

I used to camp on that hill, had a king's view of the city.

    Thx

I have lots of stories. One woman claimed to need money for tampons. I said I will buy you tampons. She was gone by the time I got out. The security guard said too bad they are out of crack or I could have helped her.

There is one guy I take pity on too often for my budget because he seems mentally ill. I have given him $5 for a meal many times.

I have slept between two parked cars. My first priority was, NOBODY could see me.

"Sleep" is a bit of an exaggeration...and I did this in Rochester, NY. Gets damned cold in the winter there, but ANYTHING was better than what I had waiting for me at some of these foster homes.

My last one, the woman had a pimp living with her. She had a brothel in Buffalo. They used to have 25 - 30 men come over, every night, to play pool and get drunk.

AND I caught Hep A off her. I was off school for MONTHS. That was a nightmare, as I knew I couldn't heal if I kept running. I literally hid inside her house. Up in the attic, in the back room upstairs. They never fucking knew if I was alive or dead anyway.

Jesus, there are some horrible people in this world, and most of them seem to be preying on children.

PS if these people wanted food, I'd make more egg burritos and hand them out. But they don't want food.

I don't think enough voters have had these "enlightening" experiences. I know we need universal care partially because I had appendicitis at 14 and was left to linger in the ER, near death, for 2 days while they tried to figure out how to get paid before operating on me. You CAN need care, and not get it.

Just like you CAN need food, and not get it.

Too many people think that such things could never happen to THEM, and the homeless are a different "species" of human.

    They aren't, and it could.

I've only ever given $1 or $5. IDC what the person did with it.

If they wanted cigarettes or beer most of all, I am cool with that.

I've given homeless $5 and more, but what I offer that is more precious, is advice.

Point them out to the right town...

    Thx

As I said I don't either sometimes but a constant stream of them I just don't have the money to buy their booze, drugs, or cigs.
    Thanks from Madeline
