Here's the thing about the Bible:

Take a paragraph in English and run it through an electronic translator to any modern language of your choosing.
Now, run it through again and translate it back into English.

    See how it has changed.

Now, consider that the Bible has been translated many times from one language to another, then from that language into yet another. Consider that some of those languages are dead languages, no one speaks them any more and we really have little idea what the culture of the speakers may have been.

and then think that you can take Bible passages literally and be sure you really understand what the original writer wanted to convey? Really?

    BTW, Ian?

Isn't it good to know that a fundamentalist Christian up in the hills of Tennessee, with no theological degree, knows more about YOUR religion...

    than you do?

He's counting on the fact that He gave people brains to think with and to decide what's truly best for themselves instead of choosing darkness and eternal suffering. THAT, I submit to you, is a Very LOVING God!

Yes. Actually the "saints" are never to be worshipped since they are merely humans and not of Divine origin as God is, no matter what the pope thinks. Many do not agree with the Catholic Church where it concerns saints and such things since the Holy Bible is very straightforward in saying that people should not make an image of God as He is Spirit.

God has spoken to mankind on that very succinctly and to the point.

"I AM the LORD Thy God." -- First Commandment.

"Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me." -- Second Commandment.

I am not the one who condemns those groups or any group or person(s). That is solely within God's jurisdiction and His sole decision.

Jews are favored by God but even they are not completely immune to God's laws of justice and of being and living appropriately and honoring God as they should. And God is comprised of God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. Three persons in One because God is Divine and a Spiritual Being.

You don't even realize the irony of that claim. Christianity, like all theistic religions count on their adherents to willfully choose to not use their brains, and to ignore reason, logic, and complete lack of objective evidence.

See, this is the problem with reading the Bible, rather than studying it, and understanding it. That commandment had nothing to do with idol worship. Idol worship was actually dealt with by the second commandment - "Thou shalt make no graven images". The first commandment actually deals with something that Christians (Not Jews, interestingly enough) insist don't exist - worsipping gods other than Jehovah; and, by gods, I mean actual divine beings. That was the exact word used in the original text - Elohim, "divine beings". God specifically commanded the Israelites to not worship any other divine beings except him.

Which rather forces Christians to twist themselves into some really interesting logical knots, in order to reconcile that commandment with their claim that Jehovah is the only god in existence. The easiest explanation is to simply admit that, yes, the gods of other cultures are, in fact, gods, but that Jehovah was claiming pre-eminence over the Israelites, as was his right. After all, he had just delivered them from their captors of 200 years.

But, wait for it. Demowhip, or some other Christian is going to rush in, and explain, "No, no...what that verse really means is..." and will find some convoluted alternative for Elohim, "divine beings". This is the problem with Christians trying to appropriate a religion that existed some 2500 years before their founder was even born, and trying to cram its theology into their religion. It forces them to twist themselves into knots explaining all of the parts that don't actually fit with their propaganda, and doctrine.

So, those Jesus pictures that are seen in most churches should be taken down?

    Pictures like this:

when no one living today knows what Jesus looked like.

That is correct because it is a Biblical directive. I cannot and will not argue with what God says about that. God (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) is Spirit and as such cannot be described by man. Period.

"I AM the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." -- ISAIAH 42:8 (KJV)
