Could I just get a straight answer from our local Fundamentalist/Evang Christians?

According to your understand of the Bible?

Do righteous Jews go to Heaven or Hell?

I can't answer for either as I am neither but I have done a lot of study in religions.

I do know that Jews don't believe in either a heaven or hell. My understanding is that they have some beliefs as to where the soul goes after death to cleanse itself for the world to come but there is no official doctrine beyond that. Jewish faith focuses on this world more than the next.

With respect to fundamentalist or Evangelicals they will tell you the only way for anybody to get to heaven is through Jesus Christ. If you don't believe you don't get in to heaven. I think the hell part is based on if you were a good person or not but I suppose some of them do think you do go to hell if you are a non believer and not saved (regardless of being good or bad). I am not sure that they have a concept of purgatory or a limbo. I have never come across any one that discussed it or any material that addressed that specifically it was either HELL OR HEAVEN.

    It's a paradox for them.

Either they say "No, only Christians go to Heaven"...i.e Jews go to Hell, even the righteous adherent Jews...

which means God has BROKEN his Covenant with the Jews.

Or they say "Yes, Jews can get into Heaven as Jews" which contradicts "None come to the Father, but by me"....

occasionally they try "Jews get ONE MORE CHANCE to accept Christ after they die".....to which the immediate question becomes "Okay, so why don't Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists or even atheists get ONE MORE CHANCE to accept Christ after they die"?

Faced with a paradox, they'll likely dodge, deflect, and try to change the subject...as usual.

((Actually, the likely answer to my Subject Line Question will be....."No, you can't get a straight answer" ))

    What is righteous?

Its not a hard question and one you don't need to ask us, it's in the Bible.

I'm pretty sure Jews don't believe in an after-life.
Neither do I so does that make me righteous, too?

It's really not appropriate to say that in such generic terms. As with pretty much any religion, there are many different and diverse sects of Judaism who hold slightly divergent beliefs, and beyond that, individuals within the various sects may hold personal beliefs that are not consensus opinion within their own congregation.

Both Purgatory and Limbo are unique to the Catholics. Protestants don't accept these concepts.

We do, but it is not quite so well developed conceptually as the Xian one, because there is hardly anything about it in the Torah (oral or written). After all, the soul does not merely disintegrate upon death.

No. You can't get a straight answer. And I feel like we've been through this.

    Here's why.

Can I get one straight answer - do Americans like country music. Yes or no?

    What's the answer?

The answer is "some do and some don't". Which is NOT a straight answer.

Catholics in South America would might say no. Most of them. Catholics in Asia or North America would officially say yes. But some people would argue it.

Southern Baptists might say no, Baptists in Canada would say yes. Presbyterians or Mennonites would say yes officially, but individuals would differ.

I'm United and we would say that heaven and hell are metaphors and you should be helping God with His work, not asking silly questions about literary devices.

Anglicans would think no but say yes.

So there's the straightest answer I can give.
