    Yep.

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. ... Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I bow my head when others are praying before dinner out of politeness...

in the same manner that Benji says she "just digs in" but is thanking God in her mind.

Though I've never understood "thanking God" for the food I eat....especially in my own home?

I go out...work...struggle...to make money....take that money to the store, which sells the food to me....my wife or I cook it........God plays no part in that scenario.

Why should I thank HIM...for my hard work...or the store manager accepting my money....or mine or my wife's hard work in preparing it.

If God took me out to dinner or had me "round over to his place" ....THEN, I would understand thanking Him.

I'm agnostic. If I'm at someone's house and they start out dinner with a prayer, I bow my head and wait silently for it to finish. If I feel it is necessary for the situation, I may even add the perfunctory "Amen." out loud. It's not about whether I believe or not. It's their house, their gather, their meal, whatever, and they believe.

    Agreed...plus you're the guest.

It'd be rude to go to an alcoholic's or a teetotaler's family dinner to bring over a six-pack and crack one open at dinner.

Bevause food doesn't come from the store. It comes from plants and animals. And those plants and animals were cultivated and harvested by others, and fully half the world is going to bed hungry because they don't have neighbors who are so good at cultivating plants and animals that they can sell some to them for money.

You don't have to thank God, but that's why others do.

Another "You didn't build that" scenario.

they do the pray thing... and then part of that was to hug your neighbor...whoever was next to you, front or behind you. Granted this was in a church but along the same line of unwanted touching.

"Original Source" Argument....I've heard that. The old "No, use your OWN sand" joke.

But it still fails....if I (me, not God) don't earn money, I can't buy the food. And God won't show up and bring me a Meals-on-Wheels.
