Do you know what a Texas Sharpshooter fallacy is? People on the forum make it all the time.

There are scumbags from all walks of life. The very same question can be asked of Jehovah's Witnesses as to why they think Catholics are scumbags. It can also be asked of Sunnis as to why they think Shiites are scumbags.

Recent study from 13 countries, when asked what belief system do the worst, most heinous people in the world believe in, "atheism" was the overwhelming answer.
And yet, every religious survey ever conducted in prisons show that the percentage of atheists are found in the prison system is FAR lower than the percentage found in the U.S. population.

Statistical polling is anonymous; even in prisons. Furthermore, I've seen no evidence to suggest that atheists (outspoken or closeted) are subject to abuse in prisons, either by inmates or prison administration.

Are you sure you are a teacher? I mean, a teacher would know how to do her homework and back up sources before making such foolish, ill informed statements.

I'd say don't quit your day job, but if your day job is teaching, well....
Not only am I a teacher but I lead workshops in prejudice awareness. You sure could use it. Saying atheists think other atheists are immoral is the same as finding gay people who think homosexuality is immoral.

The church puts a lot of effort into saving lost souls, especially when they have a captive audience.

But nothing in the article suggests that inmates who choose to not participate in religious services are treated any differently.

They do not get to leave their cell unless they participate in christian fundamentalist dogma.

Erzen casts empirical doubt on the claim that faith-based approaches to recidivism are effective. She analyzes too the goals of many conservative evangelical prison ministries. They often ignore the injustices of the system in which they work. They shy away from social and political issues to focus only on matters of the individual heart. Or they embrace a theology of retribution that sees criminal punishment as just and necessary.
