That dissonance does not seem to bother them.

What is the dissonance? Born-again Christians believe that only they are saved. Joel Osteen made me take the Oath again last Sunday just in case.

They get their belief from the Bible saying that only people who accept Christ as their Lord and Savior are saved. It's not a birthright or belonging to a certain church.

I am not saying I agree with them, but there is logic to that. A lot more logic than many other believes across Christianity.

Yet they count as Xians those who are not in the "born-again" category. They are trying to have it both ways.

    That dissonace.

The dissonance is that often someone argues a point and then claims as support that there are either x amount of Christians in the world or in the United States. The high number cited is to help bolster the argument.

Then, when pressed, some of those Christians start getting thrown off that tally. What about liberal Christians? No, you can't be a liberal and be a Christian. What about pro-gay rights Christians? No, pro-gay rights is incompatible with Christianity. What about Mormons? No, well it used to be no and then Mitt Romney ran for president so we could count them as Christians, but now that he lost we're thinking Mormons aren't Christians again. What about Catholics? No, they're not real Christians either.

That's the dissonance. Everyone's a Christian when the point is to inflate the total number of Christians in the world or country. Once we start talking about beliefs, those numbers somehow change.

In the next life, assuming that there really is a next life, there will be a lot of very surprised people who thought of themselves as "Christians" and "saved" while the rest of us were going to Hell.

Just wait until they see Thor sitting on the throne next to Brahma.

Not really. If you're talking about people who identify as Christian.

I was told by a born-again that I practiced a 'dark religion'. I didn't practice any religion, I was 'born Catholic'. Anyway I still have NO IDEA what they meant.
