Yes, really. In the same breath, some Xians will count everyone who identifies as Xian when they think the numbers bolster their argument; but then will state that those Xians who disagree with them are not "real Xians." That would reduce the count, but then "2+ billion".... They are trying to have it both ways.

Depends on the context. You didn't give one. If the subject were persecution, then all who identify as Christians would be the accurate number. N. Korea doesn't ask if one is born again before torturing and killing self-identified Christians. Neither does ISIS. Etc. and so forth.

Not when both statements are made in the same argument. It is like X=1 and X=2 in the same breath.

No, it doesn't. Because, in your example, what's being talked about is someone trying to claim North Korea is persecuting Christians but the Christians they're persecuting aren't real Christians. How can the persecution of someone who is not a Christian be the persecution of a Christian?

You guys are trying to use logic to explain people's religion. STOP. There is nothing even remotely logical to explain religion. All religion falls apart in the face of logic. That's why when faced with contradiction suddenly it takes faith to believe in it.

Yeah, I also found it odd that fundamentalists declare that Catholics aren't really Christian when all the protestant religions branched off of the original Christian religion - Catholicism. The Anglican church's reason for existence is the most interesting. Because the Pope wouldn't grant Henry VIII his divorce from Catherine of Aragon. It wasn't like Martin Luther who pointed out the faults of the Church. It was just because he was infatuated with another woman and because Catherine didn't give him a male heir. Fascinating foundation for a religion.

To take it a step further, Catholicism grew from the small group who split from the Jewish tradition... It's all about schisms. so many subdivisions, all believing THEIR way is correct!

Emo Philips captured the concept best for me.

" Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"

He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too!
Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too!
What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too!
Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too!
Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too!
Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"
Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!"
And I pushed him over. "

Read about the Crucifixion and look at a Papal procession. Jesus was a socialist. Are the popes?

And the whole thing started with the battle of Milvian Bridge, some 312 years after Christ. Had Constantine the Great lost that battle, we'd still be worshiping Sol Invictus or some other god.
