Actually one neighbor said god saved my house from being destroyed and I asked why god made the flood...she laughed, she thought I was making a joke, .
I think you're getting carried away here acting as though I have spoken to people in Huston and mocking them. I would never say anything to a person in dire need who is giving God credit because at least that person is getting comfort. But I think I can speak here unless you're in the middle of the flood.

It's possible that people are just grateful to God that they are alive. This was and is a major disaster and the expression (paraphrased)There are no atheists in foxholes comes to mind. Sometimes faith is all that people have.

    IMO

While I don't share their faith in divine intervention, I do believe you've nailed it when you explain their reasoning.
    They do believe it.

I consider myself an agnostic because I'm afraid to be an atheist and worry about god getting pissed!

Please don't tell them! I am sure they're all reading this. So I ask you...did god save them? I have heard that from people who were not in Houston so let me mock them.

You're gonna do what you are gonna do.

Nothin I can do about it.

I hope you are never mocked for your beliefs by strangers, if the same ever happens to you.

I would hope that people are actually nice to you.

Actually treat you with compassion and respect in your time of need.

But, I understand, that's not your style...

There were and are atheists in foxholes. It's a theist myth to console themselves. If they're grateful they're alive, why don't they blame the one who put their lives at risk by allowing the disaster to happen?

If God chooses who survives these disasters, he has horrendous judgment.

Almost all of the serial killers, etc. survive.

    That's just not right.

    Lololol.
