That’s another cop out I often hear when horrible things happen people will say that God has a plan. If God has a plan why are we wasting our time praying to him?

I can think of a few, off the top of my head.

The instinct to kill is irrevocably connected to the instinct to eat. Any instinct can be consciously suppressed.

    No, its connected to survival.

Not all survival revolves around eating.

Well, of course, it's also important not to be eaten.

We find those animals cute for one simple reason. They are mammals and so are we.
I dunno, there are plenty of non-mammals that become human pets as well. Many birds are considered cute -- especially if they can be trained to speak. I suspect that it is the anthropomorphizing of certain animals that causes humans to develop empathy for them.
