What makes religion different from a cult except for the number of members? I know several Jehovah witness and they do not reject their children who leave the church. We can pick and choose from the Bible some pretty terrible things also

Yes, but most Religions in this country are shrinking. But my post is about Evangelicals, who have made the Far Right superced their Bible to support the dregs of humanity.

Maybe a summary would help. Or brief excerpts of the most salient points.

The OP is not much more than a link to a 2000+ word essay.

I think there is also a much simpler reason at play. As a population receives more educational opportunities, it becomes more difficult for individuals within that population to blindly accept belief systems that aren't founded upon rational concepts. Ignorance breeds religious belief, while an accumulation of knowledge tends to have the opposite effect.

we have a few Quakers here, many Amish, many more German Baptist. Many of them are derivatives of the Church Of The Brethren I now attend. I occasionally attended the old Church, then they built a new one across the street.

New,young Pastors there are moving away from the old dogmatic,my way or the highway. They are teaching inclusion, one body, caring for all. Inviting different Denominations in to show how much alike we are, forgetting the man made divisions that are harming all.

I have noticed more and more young people showing upis could have never been a member of the old Church. This one is an oasis among the insanity of our country.
    Thanks from Madeline and Iolo

Yes,you are quite right. Science and Education are showing the many fables in the Bible to be wrong. I have always understood the Bible was written by the uneducated men.

But I think the lessons in the New Testament are great rules to live by.

Evangelicals have reverted back to the Old and that is not what I believe.

Fine, but my IPad will not let me here. I can post pictures and videos on other sites. Sorry,Djinn.

But we do have a conversation going. Most were not up as early as I am.

Church attendance has a lot to offer, for any type religion. Dedicated time to ponder spiritual growth. Fellowship. Community good works. A sense of belonging.

    Etc.

Not to say these experiences are per se denied to atheists, but possibly they are less readily available to them.
    Thanks from Iolo
