    Jesus gave up his weekend...

Jesus went around bragging he was the son of god. He had to have known he wouldn't stay dead after the crucifixion...

So, what was the big sacrifice he made? I see no sacrifice at all here.

First, there was his torment in the Garden of Gethsemane. And then there was the torture of the crucifixion.

In my faith tradition, Gethsemane was the worst of it. So, as bad as you know crucifixion is, multiply that by spiritual suffering so bad that it would cause you to bleed from your pores.

It was symbolic, maybe metaphorical, maybe slight of hand...maybe just imagination.

Except that isn't what John 3:16 claims the "sacrifice" was: "...so loved the world that he gave up his life..."

Except, as pointed out in the OP, he really didn't...

    John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

That's the NIV. Which translation of John 3:16 specifies Christ giving up his life?

Jesus gave his whole life to us. Every temptation-resisting moment of it. Capped by his suffering in Gethsemane and his torturous death on the cross.

So, his "dying" on the cross was unnecessary for the sacrifice?

Purely metaphoric, since man put characters to the solstice season.

    A. I didn't say that.

    B. I don't know what was _necessary_ for the sacrifice.

    C. His whole life was his sacrifice.

I don't jump in on all of these threads. I will sometimes address a flawed premise in an OP. I did that here. His sacrifice was much more than a weekend. He lived a flawless life in spite of profound temptation of long duration and extreme intensity. And the end of it was especially grisly.

    It wasn't "just a weekend".

You jumped in with a misquoted scripture which you thought hammered home the point of the OP. I addressed that.

I won't go round and round in circles about this.

It is said in Bonneville Proverbs 1:20 "Bring forth the life for a roadtrip cometh. And Jesus rose."

That was the weekend referenced in the OP.

According to the bible, it was a weekend. Died on Friday and returned on Sunday. Pretty sweet deal really...
