    If there is no god...

...does it necessarily follow that there is no life after death? Could higher animals, including humans, not still be spiritual beings in temporary possession of bodies?

    Why or why not?

    if that were true, then

    1. Why only "higher" animals ?
    2. What is considered a higher animal ?
    3. Who decides that a muskrat is still a higher animal, but the snail is not (or, is the snail ?)
    4. Even accepting that "some animals are more spiritual than others" theorem... where do the spirits for newborns come from ?
    5. Does the spirit EVER seize to exist, or is the "afterlife" filled with the spirit of every single higher animal that ever walked this planet ?
    6. When die life start to have "high" enough creatures, so that spirits creeped into them ? Were the dinosaurs already filled with spirits ?
    Thanks from Friday13 and Madeline

    Not necessarily.

If there is no God, then there is no one to decide where you go in the afterlife, although you could presumably be judged by a committee of souls that preceded you.

Perhaps souls, like bodies, evolve. You don't get an afterlife until your spirit evolves to a higher plane.

Given the factors that were required for earth to exist, given the factors that are required for earth to sustain life, I have a difficult time accepting that it was just one big accident. Additionally, if there is an after life, because we a dealing with eternity, I don't think we would still be limited to factors such as time and space.

That is assuming entropy doesn't exist in a supposed afterlife. It may, it may not.

First, if the afterlife is spiritual, why is there any need for bodies?

And why does there need to be a judgement system?
    Thanks from Friday13

It's actually to judge ourselves, since if left alone long enough, we won't. We do it to others before ourselves.

We get back to the issue of a causal universe, again. Afterlife requires a "soul". Now that soul must either be natural, or supernatural. If it is supernatural, it cannot interact with the natural universe without breaking causality, and collapsing the universe as we know it. If it is natural, then it should be possible to observe, verify, and measure it. Since we have yet to do so, I will err on the side of scepticism.

Is it impossible? No. However, I will await observable, peer-reviewed verifiable evidence before asserting the existence of such.

    All good questions.
    1. Maybe not just higher animals. Maybe all animals, but insects and fish seem more like machines than thinking entities. That could be wrong, though.
    2. mammals, birds, anything that can think.
    3. I have no answer for that one.
    4. From the spirit world, of course. Where is that? Could be right here on Earth. Could be in a higher dimension. Maybe in space. Spirits don't need the same support that bodies need.
    5. Why would a spirit have to cease to exist? Maybe it just keeps living.
    6. Perhaps. Maybe you were a dinosaur in another lifetime
    Thanks from NeoVsMatrix
