As far as I know, they haven't.

Sale of indulgencies were banned in the sixteenth century, do keep up at the back! They still exist as mental brownie points, but carry no currency anywhere.

An indulgence was never for sale, prior to or even after the sixteenth century. You ought to know what you're talking about before posting nonsense in the public domain.

    What can I say?

One print ignorant nonsense and sure enough, bigots come out of a rock like cockroaches to cheer.

    Shameless.

If sin is its own punishment, then why would there be a hell? And how could indulgences reduce the punishment of sins that have already been committed, and therefore, already punished?

Are you sure they weren't to reduce the punishment in the afterlife? I thought it was just penance converted into its cash value.
    Thanks from BigLeRoy

Hell is the state of irredeemable privation from the source of good.

    Because sins are forgiven.

An indulgence refers to the power of the church to forgive sins.
