    Christianity and surrogate motherhood

Russian singer Philipp Kirkorov is a well-known bachelor. He always has some beautiful woman or other on his arm, like, in this case, the Ukrainian singer Anni Lorak

or Aleksandra Savelieva from girl pop band Fabrika

The guy is single, free, and he loves it

But he also wanted a kid. But he did not want to limit himself with marriage.

When, in early 2011, surrogate motherhood was legalized in Russia, Kirkorov took advantage of this. He hired a surrogate, and, early this year, his daughter Alla (named after his first and only ever wife Alla Pugacheva) was born

Now, he is being threatened with excommunication by the Orthodox Church, as they, apparently, disapprove of surrogate motherhood, consider it a terrible sin, in fact. The Church believes that the giving of birth is a sacred act, and should not be offered as some sort of a paid service. They also say that this may lead to a breakdown in Russian family values, as many single men who want children but are enjoying their single life may follow Kirkorov's exmaple. There are already many single-mother households in Russia. After this, maybe many single father ones also. And that is not good. I suppose I can see the logic in that. But others say this will help those who want children but cannot have any themselves for medical reasons.

Kirkorov has now, to his own shock, became the face of the pro-surrogacy movement in Russia.

What do you guys think? Is surrogacy against Christianity? Or is the Church wrong?

First, I gotta say.....he's, uhm, odd looking.

I think the church and most religions are archaic and need to adapt. Congrats to him and his daughter. I wish them a long, healthy, happy life.

Kirkorov is odd, period lol When he was a judge on Factor-A, the Russian version of X-Factor, he was a worse jerk then Cowell ever could be, actually swore at some poor contestants on live broadcasts! Him and another judge, the rocker Yuri Shevchuk

ended up fist-fighting, after Kirkorov had apparently insulted some female contestant and Shevchuk stuck up for her.

But, now I look at how he cares about his daughter, and he seems like not such a horrible person after all. Yes, as you say, best wishes to them.

I think why care what the church thinks, but then I don't live where he does. If he is faced with shunning from all loved one and respected friends, Then he may of wanted to check with the local clergy.

I wish him the best also.

Well, I guess I was just using him as an example, but my question is more general: what do you all think about surrogate motherhood, is it a good idea, bad? I know there are religious conservatives here, I wanted to get their thoughts as well. It is a complicated issue. It is said that hospitals in Russia now exploit young women from poor families, using them as "baby factories" for surrogate motherhood, paying them very little.

It is controvercial, to be sure...

I do not pretend to know what you mean with a photo
Is he odd looking ? The concept is not worth debating since I am probably much better looking than you and have known many beautiful women in the past

I do not agree. The idea of surrogate motherhood is premised on the idea that the natural fecundity of a woman (an inalienable right) may be made subordinate to the whims of another. Founding a family, must, at all times, be premised on conjugal love.

would you object if the money was removed ? Say a woman was unable and her sister carried the baby for her ?
Do the scriptures say this is wrong for the sake of " this will not bring joy "
