    The church has thrived under persecution, especially the real kind. Still, since many of the threads are mine, I would add that I like speculative and anticipatory threads. I would not call most of what we see in the US as persecution, but the trend lines are a concern. So I speculate and anticipate and offer thoughts in the hopes of getting others involved in the discussions. I do not believe there is a war on Christians or their practices. I do think there is a desire among some to marginalize the influence of the church and replace it with an alternative morality. That's not persecution, but it is a struggle worth documenting. There is a lot of money, power and influence in being the ones who shape the culture. The mocking is deserved when the contrasts are absurd. But the struggle is real and I feel strongly compelled to keep documenting it.

    Is this the thread for showing who the Christians have persecuted over the centuries?

    Naw, Sky....this is about the poor but not lonesome Christians being persecuted.

    The line for those whom the Christians have practiced their particular forms of persecution on (lawsy, we're all a goin' to Hell!)
    begins over there ----------------------->

    Do you think that desire is greater or smaller than the desire among some to strengthen the influence of the church and to ensure its place as the arbiter of morality?

    Probably about the same. I am not a big supporter of formal religion, but I do think people need active faith and that the purity of the seeker drives a lot of good things in society. On the other hand, as soon as money is involved a religious institution has all the same vices as any other.

    The big lie is that new faiths are better than old ones when the fact is that as soon as money and power and influence are on the line, those seeking it will be equally corruptible.
