Princeton Party Bans Star War's Stormtropers Costumes As "Too Upsetting"

Star Wars Stormtrooper costumes have been banned from an upcoming Princeton University alumni reunion party, with organizers telling their fellow 2012 grads the costumes would just be too upsetting for some.

“The Class of 2012’s costumes for an upcoming reunion were changed after a classmate raised concerns about the origin of the term ‘storm trooper,’” Lindy Li, a spokeswoman for Princeton’s class of 2012, said in a Facebook post obtained by the Daily Caller. “The costumes were vetted by over 50 classmates who did not make this connection and never had any intention of referring to the World War II era.”

“Out of an abundance of caution and sensitivity, and in an effort to guarantee all classmates feel comfortable and welcome on campus, we decided to change our design to another character in the Star Wars universe.”

According to an email to alumni explaining the decision over their reunion party, slated for June, the issue is the “origin of this word and its connections to early- to mid-20th century Germany.”

Heat Street points out the absurdity of it all in weighing in on the issue:

According to StarWars.com, the allusion to Nazi “brownshirts” is not necessarily intended, but filmmakers were moved by propaganda newsreels showing Nazi storm troopers moving together in formation. The “iconic image of Fascism” inspired, at least in part, the Stormtroopers of the Empire.

But while Stormtroopers do play the role of evil henchmen in the films, even the most ardent social justice warriors seem to recognize that they’re merely fictional characters. At least Princeton alums are now safe, however.

What's the obsession with fake "toughness"? A stormtrooper costume is just that, "fake" "pretending"? If we're so tough, why does a little ban on a specific costume rattle the people that want to fantasize about being something else or "being tough". Why can't people just be who they are and stop pretending to be something they aren't? Toughness is facing the REAL you in the mirror. If you're tough, BE tough, don't talk about how tough you are, like Trump the draft dodger, who doesn't like John McCain because John McCain was shot down and captured while Donnie was attending business school on daddy's dime with a student deferment from the draft.

The American hating left has made it politically incorrect.

I'm sure they will thank you for your support.

Change the helmet design a bit, and the color of some pieces of armor, and they can be Clone Troopers. Clone Troopers were the "good guys" after all, at least until order 66.

Of course, the idea of clones might conjure up images of cultural homogeny and make someone else uncomfortable, so that's out.

What if they dressed up like Lukes and Leias? No, too white. Plus, Leia gets objectified by Jaba in that one scene. Might upset sexual assault victims.

C3PO? Na, he gets verbally bullied by Solo is several scenes (Solo is out for the same reason) and is blown to pieces by Storm Troopers. Might give someone the impression that droid lives don't matter.

I think we better just ban costumes to be safe.

If I went to a Princeton Alumni party and some moron dressed as a stormtrooper I would freak out too.

Why the fuck would someone wear a ST costume to a party. I would think this moron were unstable as well.

    Let keep costumes for Halloween.

It does not. Why are Princeton alumni "upset" at a ST costume at a COSTUME PARTY?

We are CULTIVATING mental weakness in Americans. A person would have to be in the 90's to have actual memories of WW II, and I doubt any of them will be at this party. Or were scandalized by the Star Wars movies.

Apparently, some want our national motto changed from "One Nation Under God" to "Please don't hurt my feelings".
Thanks from John T Ford, bajisima and BigLeRoy
