But eventually it will come down to clear evidence that Trump Campaign staffers were having multiple collusive contacts with the Russians to coordinate Russian and Trump strategy against Clinton.....typically Russia's control over Assange and WikiLeaks....

and/or Congressional Republicans getting SICK AND TIRED of the constant DRAMA from Trump and his Inner Circle and deciding

"Pence will be weak...but he won't completely destroy the Party in 2018 and 2020"

....especially if they see internal polling showing a GOP disaster in the making for the '18 midterms.
Yes, but Nixon had siege mentality. He wasn't going to leave come hell or high water until the very bitter end, and was perfectly comfortable with being criticized, even hated. You could almost say he thrived on it.

Trump is the polar opposite, psychologically.

The law requires that the budget come from the white house, move through the House and then to the Senate. It's unusual; only tax laws and military appropriations are as procedurally confined in this way.

That means there is no chance any GOP Congressperson can introduce a not-crazy budget proposal, and the white house has almost not time left to do so -- nevermind zero political will to even try.

At best, there could be extension bills, effectively continuing the 2016/2017 budget by a week or two. But that would still be chaotic as all get out.

Nixon was also a politician. He knew the details. Trump is oblivious to it all. Watching him overseas he looks diabolical in a way. I cant put my finger on it, but he doesn't look right. There is something wrong with this guy.

Unfortunately (for your Party), the GOP has the inertia of a limestone cliff.....so even if they get rid of Trump and "President Pence" is "under suspicion" and had lousy national polls?.....Pence would still likely win the GOP Nomination in a tight race against Cruz, Rubio, Paul, Kasich, etc.

Probably he'd pick Kasich as his "above reproach" Veep....but it wouldn't help.....

a roadkill possum who won the Dem Nomination would beat the "Pence/Kasich" ticket by 35+ States.....especially in "Trump States" where Trump's failed promises turned those folks against Pence.
    Thanks from Madeline

Nixon's resignation is the single biggest reason for the Carter/Mondale election in 1976. Two of the most liberal Democrats to hold those offices since FDR.

Trump is a stupid potted plant.

Seriously. I doubt he has an average IQ of so much as 100 -- although he does have a strange kind of emotional intelligence.

Nixon, OTOH, was most likely a near-genius. His capacity to run a long game, chess match, 1,001 moving parts attempted rouge secret government between the 1950's and the 1970's (nevermind his foreign policies) is awe-inspiring, if you ignore the moral implications.
Thanks from GordonGecko, labrea and steezer

But many viewed that as a pendulum swing too far left and retaliated in 1980 by swinging back right with Reagan. That's the danger we face now, the pendulum is swinging too far right that it could swing too far left next time.

Trumps developmental growth is that of a frat boy. It ended there for him. He still acts like he is living in the frat and not a 70 year old man.
