    I have a terrible memory! And MOST of the time, I misremember, so I think I have some detail right.

    Le' sigh.

    Adding to the pressure is the now-certain closure of the US government when the fiscal year opens on July 1st without a budget law in place. No SS checks to elders, no federal court activity at any level -- no paychecks for active duty US military, who are nonetheless almost the only US employees compelled to remain on the job. No US postal service. No federal student loan monies for students entering the Summer or Fall semesters of 2017. No federal funds transferred to states to fund the federal governments share of Medicaid, etc.

    What a complete clusterfuck this will be, and there is ZERO hope that Trump's successor, whether it is Pence or Orrin Hatch, will be able to propose and pass a 2017/2018 budget before Halloween.

    Well once elected presidents are not chosen or allowed to continue serving based on popularity or approval so your conclusion is pretty silly

    As for what we should bet? How about a donation of $10 to a charity of the winner's choosing?
    @Madeline
    Sounds good to me. $10 to a charity it is. The cut off date is September 1st.

    I absolutely agree with you that Trump is a disaster in every way imaginable. But I think you overestimate his ability to give a fuck. He is a shallow and callous man. He retaliates like a child. Throwing tantrums when he thinks he's not getting his way. But as soon as something else has his attention he's off, previous issues completely forgotten. He won't resign. He doesn't give a fuck far too much to even think about resigning.

    Edit: Plus he's getting rich on taxpayer money. That's the kind of math Trump likes to do.
    Thanks from Madeline

    @res and @Madeline, I'm just curious, the bet is just between the two of you so it's none of my business but does it involve a new thread and a song?
    Thanks from Madeline

    We can throw in the song too. Might make it more fun.

    If they do start the proceedings he's best move would be to resign. The question is could Pence issue a presidential pardon to him for crimes committed as a private citizen? I don't know how that works.

    Once Pence is POTUS, he can pardon whomever he likes.
