Philly Mayor To Police Union Chief BLM Are Not "Animals"

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney has issued some choice words for a police union chief who compared a group of Black Lives Matters protesters to “a pack of rabid animals.”

Kenney issued a statement Tuesday saying the comments by John McNesby, president of the Fraternal Order of Police, did nothing to help bring people together. McNesby made the comments after about a dozen Black Lives Matter protesters gathered outside the home of a Philadelphia police officer who fatally shot a black man in the back in June.

“While a few individuals have engaged recently in rhetoric and actions that crossed the line, for the large part, their conduct wasn't illegal, and escalating the rhetoric in response doesn’t help,” the mayor’s statement read. “Referring to black people as animals has a long, painful history in this country. Fighting divisive words with divisive words gets us nowhere.”

The statement continued, “Fortunately, while others rely on rhetoric, the overwhelming majority of Philadelphia officers who police demonstrations respond to inflammatory, confrontational language with professionalism and a commitment to the First Amendment. Likewise, the overwhelming majority of protesters have engaged in peaceful protest."

He added, “Together, I believe they will create a stronger, more united Philadelphia.”

McNesby could not be reached by phone, Twitter or Facebook, but he did say in a text to the PhillyMag.com website, “I’m not quite sure what he means by black people? I never referred to black people as animals. I referred to the group of small individuals who protested outside that officer’s house as rabid animals. They were chanting and screaming things regarding his wife and kids. I don’t even know if they were black, white, Asian.”

What I wouldn't give if Cleveland's Mayor had ever, once, stood up the hideous Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association President Steve Loomis we are afflicted with here, who has vomited up a racist screed befitting a 1920's Grand Dragon.

Not just about Cleveland BLM. But also about Tamir Rice, a 12 year child murdered by Cleveland police; his grieving mother;; other "racially sensitive" crimes and worst of all, LeBron James and his family.

It is the conventional wisdom here in Cleveland that our FOP Turdmeister is somehow untouchable, no matter what he says, because our cops LOVE him for attacking black Clevelanders any chance he gets.

Maybe now, our mayor will see.....that just ain't so.

    Your thoughts?

Never....but the mayor doesn't have to behave as if he can't possibly say whether or not Loomis offended anyone.

These police unions are the Number One reason that reforms to police departments fail, and the problem is national.

Nobody in city governments has the guts to say "no, that's wrong" to a police union rep.

Philadelphia's mayor just broke that Wall of Silence.

This is why as a general rule attacking actions are a better alternative.

I can understand why the protesters WOULD, but if McNesby is telling the truth about them saying those things about his wife and family, then everybody loses. If BLM wants to remain a force, they need leadership condemning that behavior as hard as it can be when your protesters are so emotional..

They have to stay on point to make one..

This has an appeal to rationality....but we are talking about the mothers of murdered children, killed for their skin color, with no hope of ever, ever seeing their murderers brought to justice, and their supporters.

There simply is no moral equivalency at work here.

I would be long since suicided, in Samira Rice's shoes. When the mothers of murdered children gather at an event, I am sometimes unable to watch.

I assure you, in her shoes, I would be tossing molotov cocktails or hand grenades, not "bad words". (And she has NEVER spoken badly. Samira Rice has never spoken in anger, TBH. The woman is a hero.)

Black Americans live (and have always lived with) with a degree of injustice that would crush the minds and souls of any white American, and without hope. The young adults are getting angry about it.

Is this really such a deal-breaker for white allies? That a few young adults may have said things that were unkind when protesting yet another murder of a child, at the home of that child's murderer?

Back in the 1970's, did you protest? If so, were you ALWAYS polite?

    I certainly wasn't.

Why would anyone think Black Lies Matter were animals?

I don't see any dead victims in those pictures John....would you like me to post a dozen or so videos of unarmed black folks being gunned down because they had a broken taillight or because they had a toy gun and they were 12 years old? Of course if it was white kids and old folks getting gunned down, just because they were white, you would just smile and take it like a man, right?
