I do not think Trump's presidency would survive a shut down, but he has promised it to voters as if this would be a great blessing!

What do you think will happen? Are you taking any steps specifically to prepare to cope with a federal government shutdown?

My brother wants to take his wife to the Dominican Republic in October. If the federal government has shut down I am going to try and persuade him to change his plans, as there is no guarantee that the US Embassy there would be open.

Might seem over-cautious, but on the 1 in 1 million chance they needed help from our government while on vacation, they might not get it.

    Your thoughts?
Your brother should have already canceled. He is walking into a place already struggling under the last hurricane. Why put yourselves at risk of getting stuck on an island when every island around it is also struggling? Rebook in a year or two as it is going to take at least that long to get things half way to back to normal. I see desperation is going to make for unusually violent activity in that region as well as in parts of Texas and Florida. It's all too much at one time and resources will be stretched thin.

Stay-cations are going to be the norm over the next two years. Visiting attractions in your own city and state a better alternative. If you are looking for warmer weather during the winter think another continent on the other side of the world. The Caribbean and North American destinations generally of great interest for sun and sand are crazy shit places to be right now.

I did provide a list of all government shutdowns, the specific dates, and what party caused them.
