The "three or four" agencies referred to by Trump are the CIA, the FBI, the National Security Agency and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, all of which were named in a January public report assessing with “high confidence” that Russia interfered in the election.

Other intelligence agencies, such as the U.S. Coast Guard’s, were not involved, Coats said. But, he added, there was no disagreement inside the intelligence community.
Coats said he had no doubt that the Russians “are trying to undermine Western democracy.”
There is no disagreement. No one in the intelligence community doubts that Russia influenced the election.

There have been reports/rumors that they do utilize American citizens, those who get paid to do this sort of thing. I don't know how it might work, but I suspect a severe recession like we had in 2008 might have opened the door to some desperate for money to do this sort of thing. Look how those "work at home" scams are. Even though 99% of them are bunk, thousands still apply and even send money for info.

There is also no disagreement that they have been doing similar things for the past 100 years and exactly the same things in multiple western democracies all through the 8 years of Obama.

Only when the left can blame it on a Republican (or try to) does it become an issue fully supported by the MSM.

Starting in 2007, the Russians attacked former Soviet satellites like Estonia, Georgia, and Ukraine, and then branched out to Western nations like the U.S. and Germany. U.S. intelligence officials and cyber experts say a strategy that pairs cyber attacks with on-line propaganda was launched by Russian intelligence a decade ago and has been refined and expanded ever since, with Putin’s blessing. Russia has shut down whole segments of cyber space to punish or threaten countries.

Russia did the only thing it could: It took the West’s proudest, strongest, most transformational tool and helped to turn it against us. Internet jiujitsu, in the form of information war (what we used to call propaganda) and cyberwar (plain old hacking and sabotage), turned the energy of the networks against their creators.

Why Russia is using the internet to undermine Western democracy.
No, no, it's all fake news! There was no Russia connection! Well, there may have been in the past, but Trump made America great again, and Putin doesn't dare mess with us any more.

    Sure.

In the internet age they are able to have a much greater influence and they are able to be much more efficient. Dismissing this as old news and no big deal is a huge mistake. And you keep making it.

Not sure who is blaming it on the Republican Party. No one as far as I can see. But we CAN see that Republicans have (on a temporary basis) benefitted from it. Lots of Republican politics (not yours, but much) are based on false assumptions of fact and prejudice. These are exactly the sorts of things the Russian "contributions" to our discourse trade in.

It's wrong to say that Republicans are to blame for Russian attacks, but they haven't been very interested in distinguishing false Russian-spread stories from the truth--largely because they have benefitted from those false stories. So far. But I think the mainline GOP is waking up to what's happening and how it's costing them within their own party.

Good points. I certainly never blamed the Republicans for the fact that the Russians are doing this. But some have tried to diminish its importance exactly because as you point out, it has benefitted the Republicans. But they may well come to realize it's not so good for them, either.

    Facebook today......

Facebook will give its 3,000 Russia-linked ads to Congress today

"Facebook said it plans on Monday to turn over to the U.S. Congress copies of some 3,000 ads that the social network says were likely bought by people in Russia in the months surrounding the 2016 U.S. election."

"Last month, in response to calls from U.S. lawmakers, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg pledged to hand over the ads to congressional investigators who are looking into alleged Russian involvement in the U.S. presidential election, but he had left the timing unclear."

    Then there is this......

Russian-American journalist Masha Gessen on how modern Russia took a wrong turn on the road to democracy and its march, now, to totalitarianism.

"Reporter Masha Gessen grew up in Russia. Left young when it was still the Soviet Union. Came back when there was an opening to democracy, and watched as Russia went the other way - to Vladimir Putin and what she now plainly calls totalitarianism. Why did that happen? What does it mean for Russians and for the world? For the United States in particular? This hour On Point: Mashsa Gessen goes deep on how totalitarianism reclaimed Russia."

The program is aired today.....Audio of it will be available soon...

More importantly, if it becomes hard to refute the extents to which the Russian's not only influenced the election, but divided our nation, what will those Republicans do, who have either denied it or played it down because Trump, their candidate, was the recipient of their influence, with or without any help to the Russians, purposefully or unbeknownst to those who participated in exchange of information with Russians?

There seems little question and bipartisan agreement that the Russians have been trying to influence our elections for years. When it comes to the notion that they finally were successful in their attempts and that success came with the 2016 elections, the is some partisanship.....add to that, that anyone associated with the Trump campaign working to coordinate with the Russians on how best to apply their influence......Partisanship (divide) deepens......Then add the notion that Trump himself, knew or even directed (made some) decisions, regarding it all and there is further partisanship....which in some cases narrows to die hard Trump supporters.....I know there are some people that remain Republicans who would just as soon see him out of the Oval Office for the reasons he is destroying any vestiges of good things the Republican Party once stood for.....Not to mention adding to the divide in our nation, not uniting people.

Also, he is ruled by his ego, as evidenced by his tendency to be vindictive and obsessive when he thinks he or anyone associated with him has been slighted, UNLESS he's doing the slighting/insulting.
