Ive delivered next of kin notifications. Only a couple were of young people. But it’s not something that’s enjoyable.

Mocking or criticizing the way someone makes a call to a grieving family? That’s terrible.

Trumps done 10,000 stupid, disgusting things, and hell do 5 more before nightfall. There’s no shortage of things to criticize him for.

Criticising this is gross. It’s not going to convince anyone of anything except a dislike of the person doing it.

Even if people with a political opposition to him disagree that jumping on this is wrong. Trust me that it’s counterproductive.
    counterproductive to whom?

Once again criticism of Trump is turned into disrespect of the action.

That's due to faults on both our side and Trumps side. Trump has no grace or couth. Yet somehow we expect he will learn. He is 71 years old and he is who he is. Spending copious amounts of time focused on something stupid he says is counterproductive. He isn't going to change and his supporters just dig in deeper. So its an act of futility. Trump is fighting what I call a culture war. One where he makes football players kneeling "un-American" and people in middle America agree. I will give him credit in that he knows his opposition will highlight his faults therefore making him victorious in many parts of the country. He turns a non event into a headline. Suddenly his faux pas are overlooked and the opposition is unpatriotic and are awful people. He had a general get up and basically lambast the media for their views. I cant recall that ever being done. To many a general is a special person, one that is put on a pedestal so what he says is gospel. He is catering to the electorate that voted for him while portraying the rest as unpatriotic heathens. The problem with all this is we wont know what the impact is until midterms.

"he knew what he signed up for" and not knowing the guys name,I mean, come on. He's the president of the United States, he should have the basic decorum to not be an idiot when consoling victims.

But that isn't really where the criticism comes from. its his lie about other presidents not calling, its his bragging at how awesome he is, but he continually shows he sucks, and its his waiting so long to even do so. Like with everything he does, he only does things after he is criticized for not.

Trump did not want to take Trump's place with this phone call. Too bad for him, though ... he knew what he was signing up for. Most of us here could have done a better job than he did.

Oh, wah. The fact that this was "the best way he could feel and relate" just continues to hammer home the fact that he is unfit for the job.

If THAT was "the BEST way he could feel and relate" that simply proves what a complete dumbfuck he is.

Pointing out that Trump didn't take his call seriously enough even to learn the soldier's name or his wife's name but saying "Your guy" discloses the lack of real humanity this empty shell of a man is.
Trump has no real emotion other than hatred, anger and greed.

I agree that the Niger attack shouldn't become the sort of hypocritical political football that the GOP attempted to make of the Benghazi attack. That said, Trump has only himself to blame for the American public's reaction to his own sociopathic behavior. He (once again) embarrassed himself and his party. The blame falls squarely on his shoulders.

Good point. I'm sick of "how inappropriate it is for you to react to the president's bumbling/malicious ignorance this way!" Taking the high road isn't working. And we saw in the last election that "straight talk" in the form of crude insults and gross mischaracterizations has become the new courage and kindness and restraint are now frowned upon as weaselly and cowardly.

So to anyone thinking the left is going too far in flogging Trump with the corpses of dead soldiers for political purposes...

    And never forget Benghazi.
