And a related story, the old insult "your mother wears combat boots". Way back when GIs were going through poor villages, sometimes the women in the village would trade with them sex for food or clothing. So if a woman was wearing combat boots, that meant she had sex with a soldier to get them. It's basically a way of calling someone's mom a ho.

HHmm…. Black and Blue when referring to cooking beef means raw in the middle and chard on the outside…

I was going to insert this story into another thread because it seemed appropriate but I couldn't figure out a way to write it into my post without it being too much of a diversion from the point.
You know Beatrix Potter, beloved writer and illustrator of children's stories? Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail.
She was a brilliant scientist. Amateur scientist but still. She came up with groundbreaking ideas in fungal reproduction. But the scientific community basically ignored then stole her work because apparently they thought girls can't do science. She only got into childrens' literature because she was rejected by the scientific community. Years after her death, her illustrations of fungus were published in scientific literature which is what she had always wanted.
