    Bernie's Right

I don't know what to think of Bernie Sanders, but he's right about one thing - we DO live in an oligarchy.

How socialist Bernie Sanders offers Democrats a shot at the white working class

Bernie Sanders speaks to the concerns and anxieties of the American people in a straightforward and sincere way that mainstream politicians lack. Yes, he personally supports democratic socialism, but most of his policy proposals aren't that different from standard social liberalism or social democracy. He's a man of the people, a TR of sorts, just without the chauvinistic foreign policy.

True. Well, we've had Republicans and Democrats indoctrinating us with socialism for decades while lying about it, so why not have the real deal?

    He is wrong.

We live in a plutocracy, not an oligarchy.

This just shows his ignorance about politics. If you are going to use those terms at least take 30 seconds to Google them first.

Are they really mutually exclusive? (Asking honestly - seems like there's room for some overlap to me.)

Oligarchy is a government run by a few which could be anything from leaders to religion to military people. A plutocracy is where wealth governs meaning the actual people running it are irrelevant since they are controlled by the money. For example, corporations or Wall St. would be the ones making the rules.

    Not really any overlap there.

    Yeah. You're correct.

    oligopoly
    ˌləˈɡpəlē/
    noun
    noun: oligopoly; plural noun: oligopolies

a state of limited competition, in which a market is shared by a small number of producers or sellers.

Eh - I guess I just figure a plutocracy is a form of oligarchy. But okay.

It could be but it doesn't have to be. For instance, suppose we go into conspiracy theory here and say that The Powers That Be (that select group of shadow bankers) control all the wealth and all the power. I suppose if Soros, Buffet, and Gates were to use their wealth to install them as leaders that this would be an overlap.
    Thanks from Wonderer
