Donald Trump cancels Martin Luther King Day visit to national African American histor

President-elect Donald Trump has canceled his holiday visit to the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture — losing a chance for much-needed goodwill after his feud with a civil rights leader.

The incoming president, who spent this weekend waging a war of words with Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), had planned to visit the national museum in Washington, D.C. on Martin Luther King Day.

But senior level transition sources told ABC News on Sunday the visit is off due to unspecified “scheduling issues.”

During the presidential campaign, after Trump said there had “never been a worse time to be a black person” in America, President Obama urged him to visit the museum and brush up on his history.

Trump seemed to have “missed that whole civics lesson about slavery and Jim Crow,” Obama said in a September speech at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation in Washington.

“We’ve got a museum for him to visit,” Obama said.

Back in September the staff of the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, in North Carolina refused to bow down and give the campaigning cheeto the deference he demanded.

The International Civil Rights Center and Museum declined to have the Republican presidential nominee visit because of the campaign's list of demands, reports WFMY News 2.
"We did not honor the request of the Donald Trump team because we thought they demonstrated, in their approach was disrespectful, so therefore we did not grant that request," said Early Jones, co-founder of the museum.

Jones called the campaign aggressive and rude to museum staff.

The campaign also asked for the museum to be closed for at least five hours to accommodate Trump, she said.

Jones said the museum does not provide special treatment to anyone.

Trump continues his mis-steps. Trump Inc. sent Reince out to the Sunday talk shows to once again blame the DNC and Clinton for Russian Hacking and to fake outrage that Rep. Lewis could insult Donald by calling his presidency...not legitimate.

Reince did a horrible job convincing that Lewis, not Trump, was to blame for Donald Trump's tweets.

How could Trump show his face at the Naitonal Museum of African American History on MLK weekend, while dissing Representative John Lewis for "not doing enough for Civil Rights in this country".

Trump will take office for the first day on Jan 20. MLK day is on the 16th. He is extremely busy in the transition phase.

Is Obama going on the 16th? Or will he go sit on a bus again for another selfie?

The sentiment I put in quotation marks was done so to distinguish Trump's sentiment...not to quote him verbatim. Donald's tweet on Rep Lewis is his direct statement.

Wow! seems like those quote marks disappeared from the original post. Good quote catch, Amelia.
